2022.01.20 07:55 ObjectivelyCorrect2 I feel like the UI has been getting consistently worse in terms of artstyle each game.

What was a very immersive and fantasy feeling UI in tww1 has been consistently modernized to match the google frontend style where things are getting consistantly cleaner, less interesting.
In this game it's clear they are trying to find a balance for all the playable factions with the colours (deep red can either be luxurious and noble or chaotic and evil) but it doesn't seem to consider that this ui will be used for 20+ factions. The old parchment style fits the setting so much better as a whole. It felt more holistically warhammer.
This applies to the diplomacy map too, whereas they simplified the ui they made the map more busy in a way that makes it ugly. There tww1 map was lacking some information but having it be an abstraction and actual map as opposed to a foggier zoomed out picture of the actual landmass also helped immersion.
The pictures for razing and constructing settlements too are gone. So basically every element looks worse in this iteration.
In a sea of good changes in qol, content and gameplay wise I wanted to point out the thing I think hasn't been improved but has in fact regressed.

2022.01.20 07:55 TimothyArcher13 Seeking Recommendations for Sci-Fi about Vaccines

Hey fellow sci-fi fans,
I'm looking for recommendations for popular sci-fi shows or films that include the use of vaccines.
I'm doing research on attitudes towards vaccines and vaccine hesitancy, and I'm curious about different depictions of vaccines in fiction.
I'm interested in all kinds of depictions and approaches, especially from popular names or franchises. Any relevant recommendations would be appreciated.

2022.01.20 07:55 CremeCrimson Criticism of Pale

This is my personal experience with Pale and WB's other works, no spoilers for his other works, spoilers for Pale. My feelings about Pale may or may not resonate with yours, I'd like to hear your thoughts regardless.
Pact was ~900,000, Worm 1.7 million, Ward is 1.95 million, and Twig is 1.6 million.
Context given. Now here's Pale: Pale is now 1,969,833 words long.
I suspect that after Musser is dealt with and the girls create a new Kennet with a possible new antagonist the story will end.
I don't think I could recommend Pale to anyone who hasn't read a webserial before. It's not a bad story by any means, but I think it relies too much on Wildbow knowing what his audience wants and his general style of discovering the story as he writes it. (I'm getting to my thesis, patience)
The Carmine exile took power at the end of Arc 13 at 1,432,000 words.
Pale doesn't respect your time (or your eyeballs). Of course, knowing it's a WB story, it's bound to go on for ages as you get to read your favorite characters kick names and take asses. But here's the issue, the story's momentum has only started to pick up.
Arc 14 to Arc 16 runs to about 537,000 words. And it's good. I love it, the readers love it. It's only started to get good. There's the feeling of escalation, that feeling of the story is moving and it knows where it wants to go.
Arcs 1 to 13 felt like I was sitting in a sports car, we'd zoom dtown in one chapter hitting the gas, and it would be, "oh neat, this is exciting." The car crashes into a wall of fluff two chapters down. We'd exit the car and stretch, even though we're on a empty section of road with miles of asphalt to tear up. The story wasn't exhausting enough to need a lot of the fluff, the fluff in itself became exhausting because it felt like we still didn't really know the characters. Only after one million words has Wildbow found his groove and discovered what he wants to do with Verona, Lucy, and Avery.
Worm set its hook in by at least arc 8, if you weren't invested then it was over for you. For Pact is was practically the first arc. Twig felt like a monster of the week until, again, arc 8ish where the story found its legs and started to run. The Carmine Exile felt like a one-million word prologue where the majority of the characters were introduced and too much fluff is used to, not pad the story, but to try and characterize the cast outside of action. But I believe that characters in stories only start to take shape when they're forced with conflict, the glue that holds stories together.
Fluff isn't bad, but too much of it can grind stories to a halt, especially when each chapter and arc are the size of books. Fluff should leave us with wanting more. Take Snowdrop's first interlude, masterful, hilarious, and presented a mystery for readers to unravel.
Guess I'll read the responses in the morning.
Night~

2022.01.20 07:55 Juiceunderthetable Coming to study in February, terrible idea or great opportunity?

My School has assigned me Kyiv as a destination for my business studies for 3 months and I was very excited until this morning reading the news, is this escalation too serious to consider coming as a French and British citizen or is it just business as usual for the last 7 years ? What sort of contingency plan should I put in place before arriving? I have given the details of my trip to the French government via a dedicated website but don’t know if it’s enough.

2022.01.20 07:55 Someonesometh1ng Richglow ceramide gel

Last month I was on a hunt for good ceramide creams to help with my barrier and found the mega post on this sub about the richglow gel that it has the 3:1:1 ratio of ceramide, lipids and cholesterol. So I ordered this few weeks back, took forever to deliver. And finally I get my new HG prospect,it was lackluster to say the least. I've been using it for a week if only I knew minimalist and derma co would be launching ceramide products, I wouldn't have done this to myself fml.
Product review - Don't fucking buy it if you have oily sensitive skin.
It has a gel ointment kind of consistency, no fragrance. Sits weirdly on my skin, after first application itself I could see a lot of texture, irregularities all over. I'm guessing it's because of the silicones, I react very badly to them and try avoiding as much as I can.
It's not a face cream but a stretch mark cream, so I diluted it with my moisturiser and put it on my skin. My skin now has weird texture, dehydrated and a little saggy (idk if it's the right word) but it was way plumper and firm before I used it.
The ceramide ratio had me gaga over it, but the formulation sucks (ik it's not a face cream but I personally wouldn't want silicones anywhere else on my body either)
So anyone trying to experiment a little, do your skin, mind and pocket a favor and please don't.
From what I know following ones have ceramide ratio, Minimalist ceramide 0.3% Formula rx barrier cream Derma co 4%ceramide complex
