2022.01.22 21:00 Chatot-bot Writing Prompt Wednesday: Nomination Thread

Greetings, members of the MysteryDungeon writing guild! ♪ This is where your prompts for the upcoming Writing Prompt Wednesday (WPW) can be submitted for nomination!
Now then, let me explain the process. This nomination thread will be set to "contest mode" for the next 48 hours. During that time, each user will be able to submit a single writing prompt of their own making in a comment. Other users will be able to vote for the prompt or prompts that they deem worthy simply by upvoting them. The comment with the highest vote count by the end of this period will be submitted as Wednesday's prompt, courtesy of me!
The format of your submission should be as follows: a one-sentence title at the beginning of your comment and, optionally, a line break followed by your description of the prompt.
It is important to keep in mind that editing your comment after submitting it will cause it to not be considered for that week's vote, even if it has received the highest vote count. Also, prompts that have the potential to lead into NSFW territory will not be permitted. Any attempts to tarnish the guild's image will not be tolerated! Squawk!
(...Apologies. I almost got carried away there.)
Once the 48-hour voting period has passed, this thread will revert to the default sort and the ranking of the prompts will be revealed to the entire guild. Perhaps you can use this information to try improving upon a previous prompt, or coming up with a prompt that has a high chance of winning. All of this is up to you.
That is all. We expect everyone to contribute some great content to the guild!

2022.01.22 21:00 ByrdmanAK Hatch more eggs. Persistence is the key to excellence, not luck.

I'm here to address something that I see often in this sub. This is mainly directed at newcomers and inexperienced breeders. Obviously this does not apply to the "hardcore" or seasoned people in this sub.
Breeding can be frustrating. Sometimes a shiny hunt is not going the way you expected. Sometimes a trait doesn't hatch as quickly as you expected.
I've seen a recent trend of people putting their games down, coming to this sub, and making a post that usually gets the answer "hatch more eggs". I understand the curiosity behind the odds of something that has or hasn't happened. Curiosity is a good thing. However, it generally seems to be blamed on an in-game bug or just bad luck. I'll tell you now its almost never a bug. And I personally do not believe that luck (or a lack there of) is real.
You are not unlucky. You either have incorrect information or you are not being persistent enough. You'll find a 100% success rate at breeding if you stop blaming a lack of results on misfortune and instead ask what you could be misunderstanding, make the necessary correction, and commit yourself to your goal.
There is a business backronym abbreviated as L.U.C.K.

  • Labouring
  • Under
  • Correct
  • Knowledge
I feel this is a good mnemonic for my point here. You have the ability to create your own luck. Failure and success are not out of your hands, its a choice that you make. Giving up on your goal after a relatively low amount of eggs hatched is choosing failure. Deciding that it is fact that you will get the results you want, even if it takes a while,, is choosing success.
I am not pointing fingers at anyone here. I am not trying to deter anyones interest in breeding. I'm just trying to put it out there that information and persistence is how you get what you want. If you are not succeeding at this, one of those two factors is lacking.
Additionally, questions are more rewarding than complaints. If you look through this sub, the posts asking questions specifically often have multiple people trying to help. The posrs voicing their frustration, really just complaining rather than seeking assistance, usually have 0-1 people trying to help.
Something something TED talk

2022.01.22 21:00 CelticCuban773 We Run

An underrated (but not underappreciated) aspect of our young men's team players is the distance they cover in a match. Here is some miscellaneous stuff I've pulled together:
Ricardo Pepi - at halftime today he led the match in sprints made (Source: Twellman and Rae during the broadcast)
Brenden Aaronson - top 1% of distance covers in the world (Source: Jim Curtin)
Weston McKennie - 34th in Serie A average distance covered (top 10%) (Source: Serie A)
Gianluca Busio - 42nd in Serie A average distance covered (top 10%) (Source: Serie A)
Joe Scally - 31st in Bundesliga total distance covered (Source: Bundesliga)
Saw some low sample reports of Pulisic (in Bundesliga and I know a lot has changed since then) and Reyna clearing 7km. Antonee Robinson has tripled his team's average in a game before (got paywalled so couldn't read the rest). Tyler Adams puts in a shift and gets covered a lot for it but I can't find any cumulative stats and this year he seems to be lower than usual. Weah

2022.01.22 21:00 waves3g Time and money are not a problem…for now.

With patience and discipline I’ve been able to save to finally quit my job as a school psychologist. After many years of being underpaid and undervalued I did it. I planned on entering the tech field as a junior software engineer based on other colleagues that have had a pretty successful transition into that field. However, I find myself questioning if I’m entering a saturated field and if I should be exploring a different avenue that I may not be aware of. I’m 30, educated, financially free (until the fall), and have all the time in the world. Advice would be much appreciated!
