2022.01.18 11:07 frenchfryeyeballs Request: Can we add a sub wiki and sidebar links?
I see this sub popping up a little more frequently on larger subs and have seen our sub count increase somewhat rapidly over the last several months. For people who are unfamiliar with Bazzell, perhaps we should consider a proactive approach and develop a small wiki describes the show, Bazzell, links to a some key episodes (his Privacy Crash Course episodes, for instance), etc. And, perhaps we could add quick links in the side bar to his Soundcloud page, Books page, Data Removal Workbooks, iOS 15 privacy guides, and other documentation he has freely available on his website.

2022.01.18 11:07 Acr0ssTh3P0nd On Goodness, Empathy, and Service in The Twice-Dead King - Reign: An Informal Chat with Nate Crowley
Hey up, folks. I just finished reading Nate Crowley’s Twice-Dead King – Reign, and loved every word. As a fan of the Flayed Ones, and Valgul’s role as their steward in particular, the ending had me and my headcanon and [Valgul](/spoiler) conversion plans all shook up. Fortunately, Nate was kind enough to let me pick his brain to help me gain further inspiration moving forward with the new status quo on [Drazak](/spoiler), as well as to expand on the book’s themes of leadership-as-service, empathy, and goodness.
Nate did ask that I not post his words verbatim, as Black Library authors have sometimes had their off-page musings incorrectly held up as canon text. To avoid this, I’ll focus more on my questions and reactions, and our discussion of the broader themes of the work. Nate mentioned a couple insights that reinforced my interpretations and ideas for my fan works moving forward, but the same themes present in what he mentioned can also be found in the published text of Reign, so I will exclusively refer to the relevant events of the book.
To start off, I noted that I found the focus on “goodness” as a force of positive change within the 40K universe very refreshing. Nate said that he loves sneaking a bit of sappiness into 40K with his horror writing, which anyone who has read Severed can confirm (and now part of me wonders how Nate will be able to spin “goth robot learns to love again” for a third time if/when he writes another Necron book)!
From here, I explained why I loved [Valgul](/spoiler), based off the small amount of material we have on him, and began to lay the context for my actual questions. These are actual quotes from me in the chat, edited for clarity.
“[The sappiness/themes of good-ness] are actually why I liked the old tales of Valgul - here’s this guy who didn't suffer the cannibalistic madness of the Flayers, if he even had the virus at all, but still made it his duty to take care of those outcasts. Because he didn't have the outward signs of the curse, his stewardship and care felt like more of a choice than an obligation!
(It should be noted that, more towards the end of our conversation, Nate said that he personally loved the same themes about Valgul that I did.)
“Overcoming the cannibalism and dysphorakh of the Flayer Curse was actually one of the main things I wanted to ask about regarding [Oltyx. Let's say he takes the "mantle" of Valgul, King of Flayers. Since he clearly was suffering the effects of the Curse by the end of the book, it just doesn't hit quite the same thematic notes for me - his exile and presence with the Flayed Ones is one of direct kinship, rather than more of a choice. Him choosing to lead them might be a choice, but staying with them wouldn't be, as much. There's also the elements of tragedy in the original Valgul stories, being the only person who might actually understand the horror around you while everyone else has lost their grip - if Oltyx is suffering those same delusions, that element isn't quite there.”](/spoiler)
Then I finally got around to asking the questions Nate had been kind enough to volunteer to answer.
- Do you think the planet Drazak might have any actual special properties that affect the Flayed Ones, whether that's [granting them some sort of peace and clarity](/spoiler), or something else? Or would you see it more as "it's not the planet that matters, but the people who live there and lead it?"
- Do you think [Oltyx](/spoiler) might be able to "work through" the Flayer Madness and "come out on the other side" so to speak, able to contain his compulsions and gain a grip on reality again? Would any of the other Flayed Ones in his Dynasty?
- If so, might [Oltyx's](/spoiler) ability to do so stem from him finally [embracing his goodness and ability to genuinely care for his people?](/spoiler) And perhaps that was also why [the previous Valgul, if he ever existed,](/spoiler) was able to do the same - by genuinely caring for and nurturing the people over which he ruled?
Nate didn’t directly answer the questions, but pointed out that, in the book, after [Oltyx “died” and came back and ran into Yenekh again,](/spoiler) he was able to see and acknowledge the reality of [Yenekh’s condition](/spoiler) as well as seeing the delusions of the Flayed Ones. Nate also pointed out that when [Oltyx](/spoiler) went to feed, we as readers see that he wasn’t in a mad rush of hunger, but did it deliberately, choosing to be there [alongside Yenekh, whereafter the two serve each other by choice rather than the obligation of royal lineage.](/spoiler)
What I interpret from this text is that, rather than falling victim to the delusions of the Flayer Curse, [Oltyx](/spoiler) has already “worked his way through” the Curse by the end of the book, or at least still has his mind intact to some extent. As a result, he is uniquely able to empathise with others who suffer the Flayer curse while retaining his sense of self and reality. He’s been through what they have, and come out on the other side, and by the end of the book has chosen to be the steward of the last remnants [of the Ithakas dynasty,](/spoiler) including the Flayed Ones he tried to cast off earlier. Additionally, a great emphasis is placed in the text on [Oltyx stepping forward to lead Yenekh]](/spoiler) as an equal. Combine this with [Oltyx’s innate decency finally coming out towards the end of the book,](/spoiler) and the emphasis across the story on leadership as a service, and I think that, ultimately, if [Oltyx does take up the mantle of the Bone King of Drazak, he would fill the role that Valgul had in the legends and tales, becoming for all intents and purposes the Valgul we thought was there all along.](/spoiler)
Next, of course, I had to ask what new weapon [Oltyx would carry were he to become the Bone King, since he left his glaive with his old Lychguard trainer,](/spoiler) to which Nate only said it was “a very, very good question” and that he has “thought a fair bit about that himself.” So that’s definitely an open thread for fans to come up with their own ideas! I myself am planning to do a Valgul[/Oltyx](/spoiler) conversion out of The Craven King from Age of Sigmar’s Nighthaunt range, which is partly why I wanted to pick Nate’s brain on the potential future(s) of Drazak and its king.
Finally, Nate brought up the issue with asking to separate “canon” from “the author’s non-canon musings” as much as possible, and added this bit, which I will quote directly:
“The whole trick with writing 40k is to always allow as much room for interpretation as possible.”
And with that, let’s go nuts with Flayed One theories and head-canon!

2022.01.18 11:07 FrancyStyle After you have built your new pc how do you transfer your configuration files?
Every program/game has its own configuration files, so I don't really care about programs (because reinstalling them is better as I get the new updated versions) but what are all the programs' paths for configuration files? Is there a specific path for every program or I have to search for them all?

2022.01.18 11:07 PskRaider869 Is Walker the answer alone?
At this point of the year, it's pretty clear that what the squad needs most is goal scoring. While Pompey is clearly trying to fix this by bringing in Tyler Walker, is he enough alone to fix the issue? Is he just a stop gap until the summer so Cowley can find a permanent solution in the summer? They're 6 points out of a playoff position with a game at hand...surely this move was made with the intention of making a push for the Playoff, right? Do they need more help on the offensive end?

2022.01.18 11:07 _reintegrated_ Tautulli Telgram Notifications (Blank Subject/Body)
Hey Tautulli fans,
So I've recently discovered the joys of the Telegram notification agent in Tautulli, however I note that since v2 any notifications with a blank Subject or Body 'will no longer be sent at all' - which I can confirm is the behaviour during testing.
I'm sure this makes sense for filtering out rogue failed notifications, however, is there (or could there be) an option to specifically allow a blank field? Such as putting
Reason being that a lot of my intended notifications could be a single line of text, but not allowing blank fields forces me to put something in both fields, meaning it will always be at least 2 lines.
