PSA: If you’re thinking of transferring to overnights for any reason, DON’T!!

2022.01.20 22:43 Axel_Rad PSA: If you’re thinking of transferring to overnights for any reason, DON’T!!

I’ve been on overnights for a few months now and I’ve gotten into that feel for it so I think I can explain my reasoning well. I was in Lawn and Garden previously so I’m going to compare the two.
Pros to working Overnights: - Highest hourly pay that anybody can do (I make $19.50/hr at my store) - No customers? (You can be more focused; don’t don’t have to deal with their bullshit) - At least for me, the 10pm-7am shift is the exact opposite as my L&G shift so timing things is easy, but this isn’t really a pro
Cons to working Overnights: - You never get sunlight during your shift - Always the coldest time of day during your shift - No customers!! (It gets really boring not helping people and taking a small break from doing your task, plus someone you know or like may show up during the day and you can chat - At least for me, you start to miss some of the people around the store you used to see during the day - Always doing the exact same thing every day, so no variety in what you do (I do juice every day, only major differences is how much you get or exactly what you get. In L&G, I’d ring people up in L&G or up front and push carts occasionally, stock freight, help customers with mulch & grills, use the forklift and walkiestacker, water plants, set up mods/features, clean the greenhouse, move steel around when necessary, set up and move stuff around in the parking lot, - I ’d get more freedom to go around the store when necessary, not stuck in one area all shift
If I think of any more for either I’ll add them, but basically overnights is the worst thing I’ve done at Wal-Mart, and I was in Cap 2 first. That was almost 4 years ago since I moved to L&G however, and at a different store. The only reason I’m on overnights is the pay because I need to be able to support myself. At some point I intend on going back to L&G but I need to be able to afford to. Overnights is just a sucky job and you shouldn’t do it unless you hate yourself. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

2022.01.20 22:43 _PigeonLizard_ How do I Get Visa Support/Invitation for a Russian 3-Year Multi-Entry Visa?

Hello. I am from the USA and trying to obtain an invitation letter for a 3-year multi-entry visa to Russia. However, when looking online, some hotels only give the option for Single or Double Entry support. (I know multi-entry visas are particular with who can give an invitation, but I am getting lost and overwhelmed with information). Does anyone know or recommend any hotels that give/sell invitations for these visas?
(If I have to reserve a room at any recommended hotels, it's important that they are ones that accept payment later and have free cancellation. I have already picked a hotel I want and can change hotels once I obtain the visa.)
I already emailed two hotels and they have not gotten back yet. It's been over a week.

2022.01.20 22:43 A9Tales aws batch to s3 stored file as input

Hello all,
First of all, sorry for the beginner question.
I want to use a s3 file (big file ~5Gb) as input for a docker and store the output back on s3 using aws batch.
Right now I modify the original docker I pulled so that the entrypoint is a script that fetch the s3 object using aws cli s3 cp command, execute the program and cp the output to s3.
Although it works, it is a bit tedious and it does not really feel right. Is there any better way to do so?

2022.01.20 22:43 ARichTeaBiscuit #GE5 [Auckland] ARichTeaBiscuit rambles for a bit about the environment

ARichTeaBiscuit continued their campaign in Auckland, with the Alliance co-leader distributing leaflets outside a local environmental organisation before speaking to a small crowd of curious citizens that had gathered to see the Prime Minister.
"Hello there,
If you've been looking at the news or if you've seen a nature documentary in the past few years then you'll understand that our environment and ecosystem is under attack, and it is under this stress and damage due to the pollution that we've pumped out over the past few centuries in pursuit of the industrial and electronic revolution.
When confronted with this information it can be quite easy to take a doomeristic approach to things, and simply admit that we don't have enough time to take the action required to reduce our emissions and reverse the damage that we've inflicted upon our environment, however, I am a bit of an optimist and I prefer to think that we've got enough time to take action to save ourselves, although if we are to meet these targets we need to take radical action and can't afford to slow progress due to external or internal pressure.
Alliance have already taken action to promote this movement to a cleaner environment, as in the last budget we financed the construction of additional solar panels and removed GST from them so that they are more affordable to the average Kiwi, of course, we have also invested quite heavily on public transportation which means that soon an increasing number of Kiwis will able ditch their cars and take to trains, buses and trams.
Beyond that we also left aside money for our agricultural sector so smaller farmers in the country will have financial support to modernise their farms, so that this important sector of the economy will reduce their substantial impact on our climate through reduced emissions and an improvement of water quality, and I am also certain that we'll be able to sell our produce at a higher price due to fact that we'll be able to market the environmentally-friendly nature of the produce our farms make.
In spite of the progress that we've made on this subject I still understand that we've got a considerable way to go, for example New Zealand needs to continue to transition to an energy grid that is no longer dependent on fossil fuels and as an island nation we can continue to invest in wave and tidal power together with wind and solar and geothermal (wherever possible).
I also understand that our planned modernisation of the agriculture sector has received some pushback on those on the right-wing, however, at the moment I don't see a proposal on them on how to help reduce the environmental impact of this part of the economy, and at the moment it just looks like a few of their cranks are out defending the top 1% and using rural concerns as a shadow to hide their rather terrible motivations.
A future Alliance-led government will work together with farmers to figure out the best path forward, so to ensure the survivability of this sector without sacrificing the environmental improvements that needs to be made across the country if we are going to have a real chance of fighting against the threat of climate change.
Of course, it is important to understand that agricultural concerns aren't the only issues faced by rural individuals, as I also recognise that these communities are concerned about poor infrastructure and reduced public services, a state of affairs which has been caused by previous central governments ignoring the plight of rural communities.
Despite claims to the contrary Alliance have been quite concerned about this historic issue as well, a concern which most likely resulted in us directing a portion of the infrastructure budget to services which greatly assist said rural communities, of course, as I have said time and time again we aren't perfect beings and can always strive to do better, so a future Alliance-led government will work to directly invest in rural public services and consult with relevant local agencies to see how we can address any current issues that exist.
If we are tackle these major problems then we can't deal with half-baked and half-funded solutions because those on the right-side of the political spectrum are too focused on engaging in a war against the minimum wage and wider trade union movement to take notice of the situation standing in front of us.
Beyond the environment, however, I would like to speak briefly on the issue of foreign policy, unfortunately, in the last government Alliance wasn't able to take control of this portfolio during coalition negotiations, and as a result of the rather eccentric state of the Pirate Party we were caught up in far more complex situations then I thought possible, however, ultimately I believe that we were able to achieve an overall net good, especially, through our hard working Minister of Defence who just recently deployed assistance to Tonga following the tragedy that struck that nation.
In the future I can state that an Alliance-led government will take a more proactive stance in ensuring that the staff members involved in important departments such as that of the Foreign Minister are held to a higher standard, and we'll work to both increase the number of refugees that are permitted into New Zealand every year while working with humanitarian organisations across the world to guarantee that the comparatively limited resources of our international budget can be utilised with maximum efficiency to assist the development of the nations we are helping finance.
Simply put New Zealand cannot cope with another National-ACT coalition, a government most likely supported by the far-right individuals Heartland and start stripping the progress that we've made over the past few terms simply to satisfy private interests. Instead, we need a refreshed Alliance-led government that can continue the achievements of the past few governments and deliver upon the promises that we've made.
I therefore implore you all to vote two ticks Alliance on election day, a vote not just for the present but for the future, thank you."
