2022.01.21 16:38 Neat_Media Where can I learn everything I need to know to never get scammed by a car mechanic again?

I also have a mild interest in learning how cars work and more about cars, out of interest and maybe to fix shit myself. But the priority here is knowing what I need to know such that I can fix minor things myself and know if I'm getting fucked over at the mechanic (spoiler: i am)

2022.01.21 16:38 Jamiewasmyname18 Noises in my attic

I keep hearing really weird noises in my attic lately, sometimes it’s a scratching noise, others it’s a few creaking noises but occasionally it sounds like something is walking around in a circle up there, I want to check it out but the part of my mind that likes to run away is jumping to weird conclusions, most likely the result of late night ghost programs, so should I just go up there and look?

2022.01.21 16:38 NICK07130 incels arent a major problem contrary to the reddit and Twitter hive minds(Hopefully censorship will avoid being bot deleted)

Before anyone says it your in incel bro no I'm not. But I am sick of seeing incel this and incel that online. These are primarily lonley men who are selfloathing (please go actually look at an incel board if you don't believe me it's not 95% sexism) although there is a good bit of s*xism on those boards the majority of its users showing signs of extreme mental illness. I also definitely see why alot of them would feel isolated from the world and that can definitely lead to resentment, as contrary to what alot of the reddit/Twitter hive minds will tell you they do have legitimate issues.
Now that I have got that's out of the people who go online and hunt down terrible opinions said on incelforms, looking at your inceltears, are honestly not only accomplishing nothing, but actively increasing the incel worldview and giving them an "other" to fight against they don't promote any hope for understanding or even attempt to understand the situation the average, incel finds himself in and that I think honestly helps to push people who are incel borderliners, off the edge.
No I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I know why people dunk on incels so much it's because it's really fucking easy especially online where you don't really have to deal with the person you can just put up a strawman, when the person who your looking to rip apart online already has a very negative self image it's not hard to find flaws in them

In season 1 episode 9 when danielle captured sayid.
Sayid asked: "Did you see other people on this island?"
And she answered with:
"no, but i hear them whisper"
What is up with that? Anyone who's seen the show knows she knows there are others. So why would she not just say that?

2022.01.21 16:38 Fearless-Formal2995 Cheapest way to obtain Nexo in the US

Are there any cheaper alternatives, because it seems the most cost effective way is to use bnb and trustwallet, but that requires you to maintain a minimum of 0.1 bnb to withdraw, effectively staked and locked away.
Changelly is absurd - 25 nexo fee for a $200 swap
Coinex - 19 nexo withdrawal fee
I hope in the future US customers will be able to purchase/exchange within the Nexo app.

2022.01.21 16:38 Pencyls Did something impersonate my dad?

Let me preface this by saying I've never felt comfortable in my house. Even though nothing paranormal has happened I've always felt a strong uneasy feeling particularly in the storage area at the back of the house.
Anyways this happened to me when I was about 9 or 10. I was preparing to go to sleep on a weekday and I got under the blankets when I heard someone walking to my room (When I was a kid I always left my bedroom door wide open but because of the layout of my bedroom I can't see anything outside when im laying on my bed.) I only realized it was my dad when he stepped into my room and stood by the doorframe.
Thats when noticed something really weird about him. He had this expression on his face like he wanted to kill me or like if I had done something terribly wrong and he was furious at me. His eyes were completely open. At first I thought I had done something wrong like I clogged the toilet or he had tripped on one of my toys and came to my room to scold me. But he just stood there with the most serious look on his face for about 10 seconds without saying a single word. My dad is the least serious person I know and he's really talkative so this unsettled me deeply.
Then I asked him "Whats going on?" and he didn't react at all. Now that I think about it I don't think he even blinked during this whole thing. He stood there for about 4 seconds after I asked him and then he just straight up disappeared. Like he was edited out a video or like he logged off from an online videogame.
I was dumbfounded. I sat on my bed completely frozen thinking of an explanation to what just had happened. Was I dreaming? I recall being wide awake with my bedroom lights on, not being tired at all. In fact at that time I couldn't fall asleep if I didnt have my blankets covering my head, and I also was playing with my PSP before I heard the footsteps. So was he really in my room and I just had suddenly fallen asleep, then I woke up and he wasn't there? If so then why did he have that terrible expression on his face? I checked the time on my PSP and only a minute had passed since I turned its screen off
I concluded that I could've had a quick memory lapse and he actually did leave the room normally so I quickly ran to my parents room to see if he was either in the hall walking to his bedroom or inside it, preparing to go to sleep. To my surprise when I entered he was sound asleep, snoring loudly. I woke him up and his eyes were bloodshot red as they usually were when he had been sleeping for a long time. His hair was also really messy unlike when he came to my room. I asked him in a serious tone if he had gone to my room before going to sleep. He saw that I wasn't playing around, sat on his bed and answered that the only time he had gone to my room had been at noon.
I literally cannot explain what happened to me. My dad thinks its pretty weird and I stopped mentioning it because hes pretty scared of the paranormal and I don't want to stress him out. I don't tell this story often since it's so ridiculous I know nobody would believe me. But it's been bugging me for so long I just want some sort of explanation. You can't make this shit up.

2022.01.21 16:38 OGswampfox PTO problems. (Long read sorry)

My wife just gave birth to our first child late last year. Her maternity leave is ending this week and has to start back next week. Well she told her job that she'd like to switch to part time when she returned back, which they finally agreed to today. But when she asked about using her PTO for the first few weeks back to help with the adjustment they told her she no longer has any PTO since she's transitioning into part time (even though HR said she could, and was the one to come up with this idea). My question is, she was still considered full time and entitled to two weeks PTO, until today. I thought at the very least, they would buy her time out. Is allowed? Idk how PTO works or really anything related to being an employee to a company, as I'm a sub contractor.

2022.01.21 16:38 tdhuck Users make it harder on themselves when they don't follow policies.

We all know that users don't read, listen, etc when it comes to anything IT related. I get to experience the negative side effects, for this one user in particular, almost daily.
I am not in help desk, but I work in IT, most users always come directly to me if the HD person in my office is busy, not there or is not able to help them. I politely tell them to submit a ticket and someone from HD will contact them (we have more HD staff in other locations and they all monitor the same ticket queue and assign accordingly).
Anyway, it never fails, I repeat the same line day after day. This one user never contacts the help desk, it doesn't matter what the issue is. When I tell them to submit a ticket they roll their eyes and storm away, it has gotten to the point where this user never even says hi to me anymore. I am very nice and I always say hi when I see them, but the ignore me and continue on. That's fine with me.
This is where it gets interesting. It is almost a daily occurrence where this user is working in an app and I hear the same excuses from them:
"This never works the right way"
"This is always broken"
"Why do we have to click this to see that"
Of course you might say that they are right, the program should be functioning properly and it should be user friendly. I agree with that statement.
This user requested a new interface be created to replace an aging system/interface/etc. This user was asked to test....never tested. This user was asked to submit any errors/issues/etc....They never did, they would come up to me and complain and I had to explain that I am not a programmedeveloper and I have nothing to do with the system and the best thing they could do would be to submit a ticket. Their reply was that they shouldn't have to do that and that it should just work!
Because of this rinse and repeat behavior, this will never be resolved. Maybe it will be fixed/discussed during a migration and that's when it will get corrected, but this user will still fail to test. I'm not defending the programmers/devs, but they do need some feedback at some point as they are not the end users and don't see the day to day issues.
Before anyone says 'you should take some initiative and help them with submitting a ticket or talking to the proper IT contact'. This has already been done, very early on I offered to submit a ticket when they had an issue and they agreed, I took note of everything they had an issue with and opened several tickets on their behalf. That's where it started and stopped, the devs replied back asking for more info and this user never responded, which is why the only thing I'll ever do, going forward, is to politely ask them to submit a ticket if they need assistance and someone will be in touch with them to discuss their issue.
The downside is that others involved don't see/hear what I see. I'm sure this person is going to meetings and ripping IT a new one, meanwhile, their boss will never know that they are a difficult user that doesn't cooperate or follow instructions. I bet they will be promoted, soon.
