2022.01.24 14:58 AFK_Tornado (Long) I just want to tell people who care: it's so much work to arrange my life around my upcoming thru attempt - but so rewarding.
I don't think this is the typical post on /AppalachianTrail - hope you all don't mind a read about my prep experiences. I am preparing to hike the AT, with the possibility of some traveling and a move across several states or even out of the country afterwards. Potentially funemployment for a year or so.
I am in my mid thirties. I have a career, a pet, a relationship, and over a decade of "stuff" accumulation. And honestly, it's this stuff that's the toughest to deal with.
I'm established but not so established that this is easier. I have the savings to even consider not working for a year, but I don't own a house. (If I did I could rent it out, hire a management company to AirBnB it, and use it to store my things.) So everything needs to be sold, go into storage, or find a temporary home with friends. I'm trying very hard to avoid renting a storage unit, so I'm being absolutely cutthroat about downsizing.
I've been surprised by how hard it is to let some things go, then surprised again by how good it feels once they're gone. As an example, this weekend I donated an old cabinet (it wasn't special, it just used to be my grandfather's) to a secondhand shop. I debated that piece for so long, but ultimately it was large, heavy, not worth much, and in fair shape at best. I saw it on the sales floor for $50 and struggled with that. Then, later, I got home to the empty space and felt so relieved it was gone.
When I come back to the real world, I want to strive to be more discerning about what I accumulate - keep the Boot Theory of Economics in mind, and own little enough that I can pack it up in a weekend - or better yet, a day. Fewer things, but nicer - and strict awareness of unitaskers.
I realized yesterday that I'm probably only one or two busy full weekends away from being ready. I'm on track, but my to-do list is still intimidating. I need to take care of so many small arrangements. I still have to sort out my taxes and figure out what I'm going to do for health insurance. There will be the necessary final weekend of packing and moving the things I use daily.
Sort of ironically, the "gear" section of my to-do list was only a few items long. I've LASH'd before and weekend backpack regularly, so I just had a few quality of life improvements I wanted to make, and a couple items that needed replacement due to being nearly worn out. I've given my gear very little thought, comparatively, in the last two months.

2022.01.24 14:58 Jay_871 Refrigerating fully colonised UB bags?
Just a quick question from a new grower, I inoculated 12 bags back at the beginning of December, expecting some slippage but all 12 are now ready for s2b, however I only have capacity for three tubs. I have moved 6 bags to s2b which are progressing nicely.
Can I store the 6 remaining UB bags in the fridge? If so, how long for roughly?

2022.01.24 14:58 vixyfoxchan Android Auto Questions
Android Auto did an update a few weeks ago and I only recently realize Maps is not accessible anymore. The app doesn't even show up in options. Does anyone know how to fix this? Did they take it away or should it still be there?

2022.01.24 14:58 techfreek24 Do I need to thin testors paints with different ratios
I’m brand new to using an airbrush. I mixed blue with thinner yesterday 50/50 and it was great immediately. I cleaned out my airbrush and went to black. 50/50, but it was way too thin. Didn’t know if different shades required different thinning ratios?

2022.01.24 14:58 yesnoyeee I'm entering 12th, advice and resources to get above 90%?
I'm the classic underachiever who still passes but not with great marks. But I really want to try in 12th and get great marks to get into a good university. But because I've literally never tried in my life I'm not sure how to get started. The ADHD doesn't help either.
I'm in commerce and took Informatics. Do other commerce students have advice on how to do really well like methods (other than hardwork of course), resources to study, Anki decks, stuff like that?

2022.01.24 14:58 bologna121121 Anki mobile shortcut for mathjax
Hey guys, just hooked up a Bluetooth keyboard to my iPad and I’m trying to use the “Ctrl +M, M” shortcut (which I have successfully used many times on the desktop app) and it does not seem to work. There’s a button for it which does work as intended but I’d like to not have to tap the screen (or type out the actual /(/) stuff).
Am I missing something or is the keyboard shortcut not supported on Anki mobile (iOS)? I tried searching relevant posts but couldn’t find someone talking about the shortcut specifically on mobile.
