What backup drive type should I go for?
Looking at my options, obviously it would be down to a SSD & HDD. However, the HDD adds more choice with SMR & CMR technologies. Note: RAID will not be used.
For my requirements, I don't need any more than 200GB as the rest of the data is replaceable and I am wondering on a SSD due to its write speed (I want to press the button and it will be finished ASAP).
This is for home use, so the PC is on avg 6 hours a day (15 hours if I have free time).
The drive will operate as an external drive within a external housing.
Price is no issue.
What backup drive type should I go for?
Note: I have checked the wiki, and there is nothing advising about setups. I am aware of the differences in technology, however I fail to see any difference for my usage.

Hi, I'm looking to visit DLP in April. We were planning on staying in the NewPort hotel Tues-Fri over the Easter break. We're currently being quoted 2270 for 2 adults and 1 child with park access. I'm wondering is it worth purchasing the annual pass for the three of us and the booking the hotel? I plan on calling DLP tomorrow but thought I would ask here in case anyone has any experience. Would it possibly be cheaper / same / much more expensive? - If its the same or even only slightly more expensive it might be worth it as I'd like to go back and see the new Marvel area when its built. Do the annual passes run for the year once activated? Their website says Nov-March ?

I haven't seen this study talked about here, so I wanted to because this really "blew my third eye wide open" or however the saying goes. Title: "Submaximal Exercise Provokes Increased Activation of the Anterior Default Mode Network During the Resting State as a Biomarker of Postexertional Malaise in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome". Healthrising link, Study link.
The shortest explanation is that exercise flips a switch in our brains that activates this innate mammalian response which prioritizes task avoidance, isolation, and rumination. (Rumination is described as "racing thoughts, feeling like you can’t shut your mind off, and dwelling on specific topics"). It's similar to how a cat will hide when it feels its about to die, except our brains do this after exercise, when we go beyond our (very low) limits.
Here's a longer explanation- scientists found that after exercise, in me/cfs patients, blood rushed to the medial prefrontal cortex while the blood oxygenation levels in the rest of the brain were lowered, in complete opposition to health controls. They theorized that this rush of blood activates the "default mode network", a network in this case being a collection of connected "nodes" in the brain, nodes being the areas of decreased or increased blood flow that they saw in the blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) MRI scans. The default mode network is most active when a person is doing what they called "wakeful rest", when someone is not so focused on the outside world but is ruminating, thinking about what’s going on, thinking about others, thinking about themselves. The default mode network has to be turned off when you want to get tasks done. The article talks about the vicious cycle this can create- "the more fatigued you are, the more the DMN gets activated, making it harder to complete tasks, which we try to overcome with more effort, which produces more fatigue and so on." They also mention that decreased blood flow to the rest of the brain after exercise can affect all sorts of things like pain perception, autonomic nervous system regulation, sleep, and movement.
Now the question remains- is this causative or symptomatic? Is this a trauma response to knowing that exercise makes us feel worse? Is this a side effect of being sick after exercise, some physiological response to the exercise? Or is this abnormal rush of blood to the medial prefrontal cortex causing a bunch of symptoms or even the disease itself? If it is causative, things like ketamine and psilocybin might be a potential treatment since they turn off the default mode network. But more studies need to be done on this to know more.
(And side note that the study had 34 people with ME/CFS and 24 control subjects, which is apparently a decent size for a brain scan study.)
I don't know about you all, but I know that when I'm in a bad bout of PEM, I most definitely ruminate in a most unhealthy way. My brain is constantly beating me up for not getting stuff done, for sitting around all day, for being "lazy", for never being able to get tasks done, etc. It gets to the point where I'll not be able to sleep at night despite being exhausted, which then makes the PEM even worse. It's like during PEM I can't actually relax at all, it makes me feel so restless. But despite being restless, I'm too sick to focus on anything, so my brain just churns around all these unhealthy thoughts. And I think I'm in PEM a lot of the time (probably from migraines). I get so angry at myself like "why can't I just do things", everyone else has it so simple, even other disabled people can (usually) still get stuff done, why has it taken me over 6 months to make a "simple" phone call, etc. I think about all the things I could and should be doing if I wasn't sick, how different my life could be. And that makes me feel so miserable. I just want to pull up the covers and hibernate, never leave bed.
But turns out there's an actual biochemical reason for it, something physiological. Our brains are hitting the panic button after exercise, it's turning on that "mammalian sickness response", a self preservation instinct to shut the body down in times of extreme bodily injury or stress to conserve energy. It's a real, programmed response. Our bodies might be turning on this instinct at the wrong moment, but something is going wrong to make this happen, something physical, something real is making our bodies think that they're dying or in a severe, life-threatening state. Our bodies are doing their best to help us by turning off our ability to do tasks. (it makes me really curious what is going on here, what is causing our bodies to have a lower anaerobic exercise threshold, what is causing this disrupted bloodflow, what is going on to make our bodies think that they're in life-threatening danger?)
But basically, we are not making this up, this is not all in our heads. (I mean, it is in the brain, but it's not imaginary.) There is a real physiological reason why accomplishing tasks is so much harder for us. I know I should be more forgiving to myself because I'm not lazy, I'm severely ill. And maybe that should be obvious, but it's hard to remember that when doctors/family/friends/etc keep insisting that this is a choice, that we're choosing to "laze around all day", that we're "hypochondriacs", that this is "just depression". The world is so completely turned against us and it's not fair at all. But there is proof, there is real evidence that this is a physical illness. You're not lazy, you're sick and you deserve to rest!
(I hope this makes sense after all, I'm not doing great today)
