Hello everyone! I'm looking to go to PTA school in Tennessee (currently living in Maryland), and I was wondering if there were any PTs/PTAs that could speak on how favorable the job market there is. Thanks in advance!

2022.01.24 17:25 KelbySmith Right wingers have completely swamped the discourse on Ukraine/Russia on social media and are using the crisis to attack Biden

Its crazy seeing all this unhinged misinformation being constantly pumped out to the masses by propagandists like Jack Posobeic, Dinesh D'Souza, Ben Shapiro, Candace owens, Glenn greenwald, etc. Even Tucker Carlson blatantly siding with Russia. I'm not even on FB or Twitter but i sometimes open an incognito tab just to see the trending tabs and its always these voices getting the most engagement/likes. Its all so tiring and Anti American. Has Destiny given his take? Theres not much sanity left in the online commentator world.

2022.01.24 17:25 FatJjjulien My crystal broke

For context, my therapist has just given me a rose quartz from her personal collection as she felt that I needed it. I was threading it to create it into a necklace as it had a hole already. The crystal broke in half. Right now I am hand-making a pouch for the pieces to go into and have cleansed the crystal in water. It is currently sat in the moon light. Where do I go from here? I know it’s a bad sign of a crystal breaks and now i’m devastated.

2022.01.24 17:25 coachmitchchess How I make $400-500 per month teaching chess to kids

I had a lot of people messaging me from this post asking about how I've started making CAD$400-500 per month teaching chess to kids and beginners (0-1200) as a Class B player. Here are some main points.
TL;DR: Market yourself locally to parents of young kids through word of mouth and Facebook groups for parents. Offer them deals to get yourself reviews, page shares, etc. Only use materials that are free for commercial use.
How I got started: I came up with a business name/branding ideas and made an advertisement poster using this free website. Make sure any content you use is free for commercial purposes. I shared this poster as an image in Facebook groups in my local area and got my first two student within a day or two. Using the money from these students, I created my website on Wordpress which costs CAD$10 per month (my only overhead costs). Setting up this website was hella difficult but it enables people to find you online and sign-up for lessons all on their own, which is nice.
How I teach online classes: I call the student on Zoom and using the share screen feature we typically warm up with 1 or 2 puzzles and then I present an interactive Google Slides presentation that focuses on a particular aspect of their game (e.g. opening strategy, discovered attacks, weak squares, etc.). This usually takes up 30 minutes to 45 minutes of the lesson. With the remaining time, we either work on drills from particular positions, review the student's games or just play games with active coaching.
How I create my presentations: Honestly, this is the longest and hardest task. My presentations take a while to create because I program them to be interactive (using the Animations feature). In my opinion, it's worth the effort. I take the curriculum from chess books I've accumulated over the years (thank you IM Jeremy Silman and GM Yasser Seirawan for being the coaches of all coaches). I've also thought about selling these presentations to coach's who want to skip making their own presentations, but I'm not sure if it's worth setting it all up on my website. PM me your email if you want to see a sample presentation.
How I find students: The best way I've gained new clients is through word of mouth and through Facebook groups that are made up of parents whose children all attend the same school (there are dozens of these in every area). Typically, after a client's first month of lessons, I offer them one free lesson in exchange for writing a review and purchasing 4 more lessons. I post these reviews on my website or on my Facebook and they seem to be effective at generating traffic to my website. I'm not great at marketing but here are two final tips I can offer for finding students: 1) satisfied clients will find new clients for you, and 2) it is MUCH easier to find local students to teach OTB than random students to teach online, emphasis intentional. Don't waste your time!
How I stay organized: Google Drive, baby!
"But you're shite at chess!": I know, LOL! But so are your kids! I offer all my potential student a free preliminary assessment/lesson in which we play a game and review it. Usually I can tell from one game and their postmortem comments whether or not I can help a student improve. I've turned down clients before, and I even have a client now who I will decline their next month's renewal because of the progress he's made in the last few months. If you're transparent with your clients, knowledgeable about the curriculum you're teaching, and your students are in the 0-1200 range, I think anybody 1600+ can start making money teaching chess.
My prices and how I get paid: Because I started less than a year ago and also because I'm only a Class B player, I decided to start by charging the minimum wage in my province (Ontario), which is CAD$15.00 per hour. If clients purchase 4 lessons (1 month's worth) at one time, I only charge them $50.00. I get paid through Interac E-Transfer. I'm not sure if this exists in most countries, but if you're Canadian, it's pretty slick. I might raise my prices a little after I gain more teaching experience/move up in rating, but idk, I'm a political scientist by trade not a business man.
The best part: The money. JK! Honestly it's seeing the improvement of your students. One of my students recently placed third in our local club's online tournament by beating the club's co-founder with a tactic I taught him the week prior. I didn't cry, my eyes were sweating!!
If you've read all this and you have more questions, feel free to message me. Obviously I can't cover everything but I think this post will give you a good idea how to start up.
And finally, if you think a Class B player can't teach a 9 year old with an 800~ rating what a fork is because they're only a Class B player, you're stupid and wrong.

2022.01.24 17:25 rum_only_rum Why do people expect teens to be in very serious relationships?

Like, I get it, some high school relationships last, and some don't. But when you're 14-17 (18 is kinda an exception) you're not thinking about relationships deeply. You like a person and they like you back - > you date! You're not thinking about moving in soon or marriage, you're thinking of high school dances and date nights.
I see all the time relationship advices be like: make sure they have their priorities or like, make sure they're financially stable, see them acting stressed/sad/angry. Like those are all valid reasons and great dating advices, but most of them don't matter to teens.
(this does not include abusive or toxic relationships!)
Teens sometimes just need those happy, quick, cringey relationships. Most of people had them. And there's nothing wrong with that. I see too many girlfriends trying to be someone' s wife at 16. Like, you're a kid! Be a kid! Have a cringe relationship! And if it lasts longer, then have the conversations about future and all that crap. If it lasts, great! If not, there are so many other people in this world.
Not everyone finds their soulmate at 16.
I just want teenagers to know that. If adults can "mess around" than so can you (safely).

Hello! I'm looking for a room to rent in Newbury Park, Camarillo, or Thousand Oaks. I'm local to the area, I have a cat that would live with me, for the most part I keep to myself (but I'm happy to talk as well), and I always clean up after myself and my cat. Please let me know if you know of anything!

2022.01.24 17:25 Cray-Ray2 They want me to teach others my modeling process. But I had to learn it all myself. Why should they benefit off my hard work?

Hello Everyone. I am looking for feedback towards this issue I am having. The company I work for has used SolidWorks extremely poorly since the mid 2000's. They have wasted so much time and money because of it and nothing has changed since. I came in 6 years ago knowing nothing about SolidWorks and was required to teach myself all while getting the job done. After years of surviving, I started getting deep into youtube videos during the pandemic shutdown only to learn that my company has been so far behind. They literally dont use any of the parametric features. No relations, smart dimensions or name the least. They might as well be using ACAD LT. No joke. I tried showing them simple new things like cut extrudes and they roll their eyes as if they arent needed. Since then, I have learned a lot and am almost a CSWE. Recently the VPs learned about how I have been drawing and NOW they are interested. I showed them all the things that can be done to dramatically reduce costs and create business. But now they want me to teach someone else how to do what I can so they can have a "backup". This doesnt feel right. I have been trying to get them on this path for years with constant dismissal, but now they are seeing $$$ and want me to teach someone else. I wish I could be a "spread the knowledge to the world" guy but there is no Win-Win. It took me a long time to learn all this by myself. If anyone has any feedback or insight please let me know. Thanks!
