I cut ties with CIBC years ago and switched/kept my scotia+tangerine accounts. Last year we purchased a vehicle and begrudgingly got CIBC as the autoloan provider since they had the best rate at the time.
I received mail from CIBC (which ironically had my maiden name on it, even though all the paperwork I gave to the dealership had my married name on it. so somehow they tied it to my old account?) Which had my loan number and noted I can make additional payments using them as a bill payee.
I'm trying to see if I can access my loan information online (I was able to do this with a previous car loan with RBC), but doesn't seem to be an option to register for online banking without a card.
I absolutely DESPISE going into a branch (particularly now). I begrudgingly phoned, hoping it was just be an automated thing where I punch in my loan number and they could tell me the balance, but apparently I have to actually talk to someone, because I have been on hold for 15 minute (was estimated 5 minutes).
I even quickly looked at opening a "no-fee" account (which I really don't want to do, knowing all the crap they pull in the past) just to get access to online banking. Of course in the fine-print of their no-fee savings account shows there is fees if you

Hi, I've just finished my A levels, 4 A*, and have applied to university to study computer science this October. I now have to bridge the gap between now and then and I'd like to work. I feel I'm in a bit of a tough spot as I'd like to work related to programming and I do have personal projects and personal experience with development but no job experience and I feel a lot of places would be reluctant to hire a junior developer who would be leaving in 8 months, and of course I would have to leave any apprenticeship schemes early. Any advice for what I should do? I've thought about maybe working in IT or just working retail or in a warehouse but I'm not so sure. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

2022.01.22 21:39 G33k-Squadman Thoughts on my Warfare 3 ideas?

Hey everyone!
Seeing as we are getting the Warfare 2 update here pretty soon with new targeting systems and upgrades to the weapons of ships, I had some more ideas that I think would spice up things but not be too hard to implement. My changes would be focused on adding features for low amounts of work. I would rather see a system implemented and be very simple with many added than a super complex system by itself. Perhaps with the upcoming API changes some talented modders would be able to implement these systems in something like weaponcore!
So first off, tracking! It seems are receiving some limited mechanics here with this update but I'd like to see us go further in depth! So IRL, there a few ways to track ships in space. Thermal imaging, visible imaging/LIDAR, and radar! I'd like to see sensors added for each system, so a radar dish for example, thermal cameras, then cameras perhaps acting in this new system. Each grid would have a defined value based on its dimensions and internal systems.
Thermal cameras would integrate with another system I'd like to see, namely cooling! So IRL obviously ships need radiators to avoid the waste heat from their systems cooking the craft, but radiators are unsightly and bending physics is what we do best in SE so perhaps a Heat Sink block could be created. Heat sinks would be able to absorb a set amount of heat suddenly like batteries, then slowly discharge that heat value over time (never you mind where the heat is going).
A ships heat value would be based on the systems inside it (each component block like batteries, weapons, thrusters, reactors) would contribute to the heat generation and each non component block (armor, panels, etc.) would slowly remove heat from the craft. The Heat Sinks would thereby be most important for managing heat when you are in a tense battle and all your systems are at max value. Perhaps to even add more value to visiting planets, being in atmo should increase the heat removal values of the sinks and armor blocks (you would visit a planet after a battle to discharge excess heat quickly). As a ship gains heat it would not only be easier to track via thermal imaging, but perhaps even reach a point where systems began to perform worse as a result (less reactor power generation, lower thruster output, etc)
Coming back to imaging, the new cooling system would work with the thermal cameras to change performance of turret targeting systems. A really hot ship would be easy to see with only a few sensors, leading to high accuracy from turrets when targeting the enemy vessel. A very cold vessel alternatively would be difficult to see, with more sensors required on your vessel to maintain high accuracy from your weapons systems.
We also have radar and LIDAR available to us as well. Radar would be fairly simple, new blocks would be added called "stealth armor" or something similar. Weaker than light armor, they would be very delicate but provide a huge reduction to the radar signature of the craft (the signature could be calculated by perhaps the total dimensions of the grid, then reduced by the usage of stealth armor instead of normal armor). Radar would work similarly to thermal imaging, with a very large ship made of heavy armor having large radar returns and only requiring a few radar transceivers to track, versus a small ship made completely of stealth armor needing more radar transceivers to track.
I'm not sure the best system for LIDAR, since iirc raycasting is fairly performance intensive so we would want to avoid that. Perhaps LIDAR would be the weakest targeting type, providing the least information on tracking to your turrets but being comparatively very difficult to overcome, with craft dimensions influencing LIDAR returns primarily. This would ensure that at very close range even the stealthiest small vessel would be able to be seen by LIDAR systems.
So, this systems would obviously be a lot of work to implement but I think they'd be worth it for a few reasons.
Firstly, as it stands currently (especially if shields get added like myself and many others would also like to see from an update) the meta is large vessels with lots of turret spam to fight battles. With this new system, we would be able to allow small, stealthy craft to maintain an edge over these large behemoth vessels by avoiding their turrets more easily (via tracking penalties) and being able to use their small size to their advantage.
Secondly, it would add another huge layer to ship building. You would now to need to ensure you have adaquate cooling capacity via heatsinks to keep thermal returns low and prevent subsystem failure. You would also need to ensure you had multiple sensor suites to avoid being easily blinded in battle and to keep accuracy for your weapons and tracking systems.
Finally, in combat we would have two new systems to target. Disabling a ship via it's cooling systems would be awesome, since you would be able to disable it without completely destroying it. Alternatively, if the ship builder neglected to include lots of sensors, you could target the few they had and blind all their weapons systems easily, allowing you to board the vessel and take it from within or simply destroy it conventionally.
Now ultimately I'd prefer these systems to be as simple as possible, especially because I'm unfamiliar with the performance impact on the game some of these calculations might have. We already have a huge bottleneck in terms of available computing resources in large battles. Assuming my ideas could be implemented we might even go further (computer banks required to run the systems of the ship?)
Ultimately I'd love to hear critiques of my ideas or recommendations for other neat little systems like these to add depth to the game! I hope I didn't ramble on too long and my thoughts were clear as well, if not feel free to ask more in depth questions that I could answer.
