The Mention of COVID many times

2021.12.05 12:14 sucker4mione The Mention of COVID many times

I absolutely can't stand how this show mentions covid so many fucking times. Like I have no reasonable explanation as to why I HATE covid being mentioned in books/shows but I just do. It's just seeing a work of fiction mentioning real world shit is weird yk. It's also mentioned in YOU and its an actual story line in This Is Us. And the fact that covid only exists in these worlds for like a year and boom its gonna like it never existed makes me even more mad.

2021.12.05 12:14 outdoorsbro Taking 6MP same time each day?

So I’m in maintenance for B-cell ALL and I take mercaptorpurine (6MP) every night. During the weeknights I’m pretty consistent about taking it at the same time around 11pm.
However on the weekends I take it anywhere from 12-3am? Is it bad to be doing this or does it just matter that I get the drug in me and timing doesn’t matter too much? Anyone know?

2021.12.05 12:14 Illustrious_Angle406 book where a friend gets wind of a circus coming into town, main character gets nervous because once you watch/join you are in it forever

i read this book between the years 2006-2008, the ages 11-14. fantasy, fiction, YA. i vividly remember the book having a green and black cover. i don’t remember any of the characters names but the scene i remember reading is
main character (or the friend of the main character) find a poster of this circus that comes into town but you never know when it happens, shows up unannounced. (maybe it is announced?) main character wants to go but isn’t completely sure. ends up going, and is faced with the choice of staying or leaving, i remember the main character being scared but didn’t want to stay in the hometown anymore. once you join, you can’t ever look back. i remember it also having a witchy vibe to it. very mystical. it could’ve been sisters and not friends. i know one is very eager to go and the main character is hesitant. there was drama once they joined, main character eventually gets out of the circus maybe? leaving the sistefriend behind.
i got this book at a barnes and noble. i know it is not the book The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, as much as i wish it was because of some of the similarities.
i remember the book being more square than rectangle. the texture of the cover wasn’t smooth, it had this certain feel to it that i can only describe as “thin, ridged, waved”, not a hardback book. it was very particular to that time when books were published that didn’t have the traditional soft/hard covers. i haven’t seen or touched a book like that one since then.
maybe the cover had a road on it? green smoke hue?
please anyone help.. this book has been on my mind for a decade or more. i can’t get it out of my head. i can’t find it anymore, not even in my stacks and stacks of books!
i really hope it exits and someone else has read it too

2021.12.05 12:14 idiotOfIndia Planning to write GATE at age 30?

Hello people!
I'm a 30 year old person, currently working at an MNC in Bangalore. I completed my bachelors in mechanical engineering in 2013 and have been working ever since. I've decided to quit my job and start preparation for GATE.
I work a back-office job, disguised as an engineering position. All I do is just attend some drawn-out MS Teams/Skype calls, the intent of which I don't understand most of the time. I don't do anything that is productive in a 'real sense' and could be done by anyone whole has just passed 10th. This would definitely prove catastrophic in the near future given the fact that such jobs that require minimal skill (but max man-hours) would be the first to go in the event of some advancements.
I don't see a future in this job as long as I don't intend on becoming a 'manager' and I have no interest in any managerial position. I started my career actually building things and my perspective has been forged in that respect from the start. Hence I'm unable to convince myself to be confined to a job where we're just restricted to follow a process, make PowerPoint presentations and have coffee.
Field of Interest
I developed interest in the field of robotics earlier this year and enrolled into a Coursera course. Just two days into the course, I realized I don't have the necessary foothold in mathematics that would be required to pursue the said course with any hope of a decent level of success: I'm not the type to just memorize formulae and regurgitate them. Hence, I bought a calculus textbook outright and started studying math all over again this year and the progress I'm making has been very good (I'm able to understand things which I couldn't back in the day).
I want to study robotics fulltime and hence thought of applying to universities abroad. While doing some research on the application process, I came to the conclusion that I do not have any relevant experience in the field and also wouldn't be able to secure an LoR (because it's been years since I left college and most professors who used to work there aren't anymore, also their LoRs would have very less weight) and hence the chances of getting into a reputed course would be impossible.
It was at this time that I came to know that IISc offers an MTech course in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. In my view, that is the second best option I've got other than trying to secure a seat for MS abroad.
I'm dead set on studying further. No, I'm not saying this because I saw some motivational video in YT or read a self-help book or something like that. I've matured over the years and I don't rely on motivation to do thing now. I've developed the discipline required to pursue things that are tough and monotonous but necessary.
If you guys reading this have any suggestions that I could use to succeed, I'd be really, really grateful.

Mother: Marguerite Selwyn-Carmichael. 38. Pureblood. Concert pianist and Visiting Professor, Julliard School of Music.
Father: Isaac Fitzpatrick. 40. Muggle. Marine biologist, the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. (Deceased)
Stepfather: Lucien Carmichael. 44. Pureblood. British Ministry of Magic’s Department of International Magical Cooperation Ambassador to the United States.
Half-brother: Harper Carmichael. 6. Pureblood. Primary school student.
Megara, or Meg as she prefers to be called, was born to a member of an important Pureblood family, who flew all the way to New York City to establish her career in the field of classical music. Marguerite Selwyn is a celebrated concert pianist who can fill a concert hall to the brim. At some point, Marguerite desired the same fate for her only daughter: Meg was brought up with an iron fist, spending most of her waking hours in front of a baby grand until repertoires were played to perfection.
A boating accident involving Meg ended the Selwyn-Fitzpatrick marriage, with their respective workloads getting in the way of rebuilding their fragmented relationship. At the end of an exhausting legal battle, Meg ended up living with her father in Honolulu. A stark contrast from Marguerite, Isaac was warm and doting during the rare times he was home from his expeditions; for every time her mother crushed her confidence, he built her up, sharing his passion for the ocean and its inhabitants.
Isaac’s sudden death brought her back to her mother's doorstep, the same time Meg began to show more compelling signs of magic. She was then sent to Hogwarts, away from her mother's second family. In hindsight, Meg wouldn’t have it any other way, anyway. She has finally extinguished any desire to follow in the footsteps of her mother after everything. With magic, she feels like she finally has something of her own.
Music. Meg is a skilled pianist, having grown under the wings of a virtuoso. She was primed to enter the world of classical music through prestigious competitions the moment she could flex her small fingers and hover over the black and white keys. Unfortunately, she has veered away from music ever since the accident and her parents’ divorce.
Diving. As part of rehabilitation, she was enrolled in swimming classes and, eventually, a deep-sea diving course. She has been participating in local expeditions spearheaded by the University her father used to work in during the summers.
Binder. A binder of her favorite piano pieces, hidden in the secret pocket of her suitcase.
Scuba Gear. Diving equipment she received from her father.
Meg is unwilling to be controlled by others or circumstances–anyone or anything other than herself. She is fiercely independent, almost intimidatingly so, but doesn’t shy away from social interactions; she can be gregarious when she wants to be. She’s not the type to mince or sugar-coat words and can speak her mind with ease, her bluntness, borne out of good intentions. Although slow to trust, she can be a steadfast ally and friend to anyone she takes a liking to.
She is extremely industrious, focused, and well-organized, with an uncanny knack to accomplish everything she sets her mind to do, thanks to discipline tempered by years of rigorous practice. Most times, you’ll find her going over her coursework and practicing her Transfiguration spells to perfection at the expense of expanding her social circles. She’s conscientious and goes above and beyond what is required. You’ll rarely see her slip up, even on a bad day; but, she tends to put herself to incredibly, and sometimes unhealthily, lofty standards. She’s her own worst critic.
During the rare times she does slip up, she tends to internalize her faults to an obsessive degree and wallows in a cesspool of neuroticism. She copes by indulging in strong physical appetites without feelings of shame or guilt, making her prone to self-sabotaging habits and addictive behavior.
December and its frigid waters won't stop Meg from conducting her favorite activity of the week: weekend dives. It’s late afternoon when she finally heaves herself onto one of the Great Lake’s shores near the Forest, her black caudal peduncle and flukes eventually un-transfiguring themselves back into her toned, lower limbs.
A glance at her timer tells her she’s been at it for twelve short minutes–three minutes short of her goal.
With a heavy sigh, she drags her legs out of the water and plops onto the ground, cold and exhausted.
OOC: Feel free to interact! She's been here since 1st year.
