2021.12.04 14:26 HumanEvidence577 I don’t think life will ever go back to pre COVID 🤔 💭

In general 2019 and before was kinda peak with popular culture (even if a lot of it was pretty shite, looking back, it seems like heaven compared to now) but since the 20s began, there’s been 0 enjoyable, memorable trends other than COVID. Like it’s been almost 2 year of this now, i had my fun with time off college, now I’m sick of hearing about it. Not to sound super privileged and entitled, and I am so sorry for people who lost their loved ones during the pandemic and those in countries who have been hit hard by the effects. But even the “build back better” slogan pushed by politicians in uk worries me. Likes is that implying that, it’s going to be permanently different now? The effects of COVID will mean we’re constantly precautioning for a new variant? And that we will never have the same freedoms as before March 2020……………

2021.12.04 14:26 it-s-luminescent Daytime Eating prevents internal circadian misalignment and glucose intolerance in Night Shift Work

A new study by the National Institutes of Health tested whether exclusive daytime eating (vs nighttime eating) can protect against the impaired glucose tolerance typically seen in night shift work. It does.

Night shift work is highly prevalent in industrialized countries and is a risk factor for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This increased risk is not fully explained by differences in lifestyle, family history, and/or socioeconomic status, raising the question of which other mechanisms are involved.
Controlled human experimental studies show that misalignment between the central circadian “clock” and daily behaviors, typical in night workers, impairs glucose tolerance.
Our data indicate that a DMI [Daytime Meal Intervention], with meals allocated to the habitual daytime rather than to the nighttime, can maintain internal circadian alignment and prevent the adverse effects of simulated night shift work on glucose tolerance and pancreatic β cell function.
Our findings in the NMC [Nighttime Meal Control] group indicate a state of marked internal circadian misalignment
Conversely, in the DMI [Daytime Meal Intervention] group, in which food was constrained to the daytime, the endogenous circadian glucose rhythms remained virtually identical to that under baseline despite the simulated night work condition.
In the DMI [Daytime Meal Intervention] group, we show that humans maintain internal circadian alignment when the fasting/eating cycle is aligned with the central circadian pacemaker, irrespective of exposure to circadian misalignment of the sleep/wake cycle.
A common question asked in this sub is: how should a person working the night shift schedule their eating times?
Hopefully, this study will help. This study indicates that eating in the daytime and avoiding eating overnight - even if work forces someone to stay awake overnight - may be significantly more metabolically protective.
Another question periodically asked is: what happens if someone does permanent or long-term night shift work? Does the body adapt where nighttime - rather than daytime - becomes the new "active" phase? According to the discussion in the study, the circadian rhythm of a majority of long-term shift workers never adapt to an overnight working/eating schedule.
Cited study:
[...] only a very small minority (<3%) of permanent night workers evidence “complete” adjustment of their endogenous melatonin rhythm to night work. Less than one in four permanent night workers evidence sufficiently “substantial” adjustment to derive any benefit from it. [...] It is concluded that in normal environments, permanent night‐shift systems are unlikely to result in sufficient circadian adjustment in most individuals to benefit health and safety.

2021.12.04 14:26 JaileenOfficial Have you ever gone back to your child’s father? How was that experience?

It’s about to be 2 years since we ended things he moved back to nj where we are originally from and I moved to upstate ny. In between the time dating 1 or two people I realized my relationship with my child’s dad was bad because of HIS family but the issues were totally mendable but at the time didn’t seem like it because we both had so much going on in our heads. I miss the life we had together his company and our kids but I do not miss the fights over why me and his mommas family couldn’t get along. How was your experience going back? Was it successful?
