A couple of problems and questions regarding Odroid Go Advance

2021.12.06 14:11 Geges721 A couple of problems and questions regarding Odroid Go Advance

  1. Buttons feel too hard.
I'm not sure how to explain this properly but when I press them I feel like I'm just touching the logic board itself. I guess this has something to do with default rubber pads and they just don't have much resistance so the buttons travel less. So, I have a question. Do custom rubber pads fix this? Which ones should I go for? GBC or GBP ones?
Also, the D-Pad feels sharp and just hurts my thumb. I guess it's just sitting too high and again, rubber pads are bad. I'm thinking about replacing it too because some people reported that custom ones sit lower. Is this true?
  1. When I shake the device it makes too much noise. I think cutouts for buttons in the shell are just too big or the buttons themselves are quite small.
Do custom buttons fit correctly or should I just replace the shell? Are there any aftermarket ones I can buy? Is there some way to "add" some plastic there? I have a regular OGA, not BE one.
Thanks in advance.

Tolkien and The Somme:
How Tolkien’s War-Time Experience Created Middle-Earth
In this essay, I hope to prove that The Battle of the Somme had a greater effect on Tolkien's writings than any other influence. The reverberation of the Somme in Tolkien's writings is often greatly underestimated and at times is not even considered. I am writing on this topic because of my passion for promoting a strong understanding of Tolkien’s works and hope to make it easier for those who are new to Middle-Earth to learn about Tolkien’s legendarium. While it is common knowledge that real-world myths such as Beowulf, the Norse legends, and Germanic folklore inspired Middle-Earth. However, Tolkien’s battlefield experience is often left out when considering the influences of his work. If Tolkien had not fought in The Battle of the Somme, his writings would not have had the same vigor, especially during scenes of conflict.
Argument overview
When Tolkien fought in the Battle of the Somme in 1916 he experienced first-hand the basest qualities that humanity has to offer. He was on the front lines for 4 grueling months only leaving the front after coming down with trench fever. The Somme was truly hell on Earth. The conflict lasted almost 5 months and cost over one million lives on both sides. While the Allies won the battle they only moved their trenches forward barely seven miles. The bodies of the dead were hastily buried in shallow graves that were quickly turned into stinking quagmires as soon as it rained and the half decomposed corpses were quickly brought to the surface. The rain offered little relief to the troops as the chalky soil would suck up the water and turn to slime. What little drinking water the soldiers did have was tainted with oil and gasoline. When Tolkien returned to England he began to write The Fall of Gondolin while still in an army hospital. Middle-Earth began as Tolkien romanticized what he had experienced as a coping mechanism.
The Dead Marshes/Mordor
One of the ways that Tolkien’s wartime experience shows itself is in the portrayal of Mordor and the Dead Marshes. Mordor is described as a dry barren plain where the air is poisonous to the lungs and the water tastes of oil and soot. This is reminiscent of The Somme where the water was tainted with petrol and mustard gas was responsible for approximately 90% of British casualties. The Dead Marshes was a vast swamp where the dead from the Battle of Five Armies had been buried and then brought out of their graves by the mire. This is similar to the Somme where duckboards would criss-cross piles of decomposing corpses half-buried in slime. Many veterans have said that the dead faces are what haunts them the most and I imagine the same was true for Tolkien. This is why he chose to use this imagery for the Dead Marshes.
The Battle of Pelennor fields/The Battle of Unnumbered Tears/The Battle of Sudden Flame
The Battle of Pelennor Fields showcases how Tolkien drew on his familiarity with conflict by using emotional language with a disturbing level of accuracy. He focuses on the anxiety, hopelessness, and fear before the battle's climax as the characters overcome their fear and charge. Followed by the mixed emotions of grief and joy. I will use a recording of The Professor reading an excerpt from The Battle of Pelennor Fields. When Tolkien reads the passage he starts reading in a slow worried tone but his voice becomes louder and clearer as the time for the charge nears.
He also focused on the importance of the king charging into battle with his troops. Tolkien dwelt on this because World War One saw some of the worst battle strategies ever devised, as officers believed that victory could be reached by bravery alone and would often order mindless charges across minefields directly into machine gunfire. Tolkien experienced this many times and it led to his ambivalent views on military authority and cement his view that a good leader should charge into battle with his troops.
The Battle of Unnumbered Tears was the greatest loss to the forces of good in middle-earth the battle ended with thousands dead, the House of Hador was wiped away entirely, and the bodies of elves and men were piled in the Haudh-en-Nirnaeth which is also called The Mound of Tears. This Battle bears a great deal of similarity to the Somme as the Haudh-en-Nirnaeth is similar to the Somme where bodies piled two or even three feet high and were often used as a cover.
Methods
The soundscape for my essay is composed of two main parts. The first part is Tolkien reading an expert from The Return of the King concerning The Battle of Pelennor Fields with the song entitled The Ride of the Rohirrim composed by Howard Shore playing in the background. For the second part, I will explain the use of emotional language and tie it back into the Battle of the Somme.
Results
While the Somme heavily inspired a lot of Tolkien’s work my hypothesis was not entirely correct as he also drew heavily on European myth, His Catholic background, and his childhood in the English countryside. European myth shows itself in the names of his characters, such as Eärendil The Mariner whose name is based on an Old-English poem, or Bilbo which is likely a synonym for Beowulf.
His Catholic background shows itself most clearly in the philosophical idea of Morgoth’s Ring. Morgoth was the first Dark Lord and the Middle-Earth equivalent of the Devil. The reason he was never destroyed by the gods, which Tolkien called Valar, was that he corrupted the whole of middle-earth by pouring his malice and hate into the world as it was created. This line of thought is often used by catholic theologians to explain the idea of why Christians must wait for the day of atonement. Tolkien’s childhood is thought to have inspired the shire as it is a romanticized view of the English countryside. Tolkien’s map of the shire is even similar to the map of his boyhood home. To summarize, the Somme had a great impact on how Tolkien wrote his battles my hypothesis was not entirely correct as Tolkien drew on a great many aspects of his life to create middle-earth.

2021.12.06 14:11 _Quintinius_Verginix Veganism (and why I'm not one)

Meat and cheese tasty.
But in all seriousness I absolutely agree that meat consumption and production in the modern age is cruel and (more importantly in my opinion) incredible bad for the environment. BUT my personal solution has been to cut down my meat consumption to 2-3 meals every 3 weeks or so and having full vegan make about 3-4 times in the same time frame. Something I think a lot of people don't seem to fully understand when they do vegan advocacy is that a lot of people will not agree with you if you argue in terms of morality. It's far better to argue environmentally seriously. Because "your cutting their life short" does not work for me and others because these animals would have their lives cut short by other predators in the wild as well. While "these animals suffer unnecessary cruelty during they're life" is a far more compelling argument because yes the cruelty they suffer would not occur naturally.
Another thing to consider is the consumption of deer (in the UK) is actually good for the deer population as they have no natural predators (wolves have long since died out here) and so the population grows unsustainably if not hunted. And if the population as to be regulated in order to stop the spread of disease and mass grazing that damages the eco system I would argue we should eat the meat it generates. To do otherwise would be a complete waste of resources. Hunting foxes is so morally abohorent to me because their is no intention of eating the meat produced (I mean foxes taste terrible) so the hunting is merely for the sick amusement of those participating.
Another example of sustainable meat eating covers from Dartmoor - animals have been put up on Dartmoor since the early bronze age and so the environment created is only possible because of a certain amount of grazing, but not too much - the best way to manage this is to put animals up each year and then have a certain % be sold as meat. Dartmoor ponies (one of the oldest natural breeds in the UK) are routinely rounded up and a certain amount sent to Europe as meat - this is going to happen no matter what right now so I would argue that it is hot that farmers are shifting to seeing the meat locally as it keeps the income within the local economy.

2021.12.06 14:11 tiredofeverything081 Child care

So I’m due in July and Hubbie and I are talking about child care. For a newborn it’s going to cost us about 12000 a year. My job is flexible and I can go from Monday to Friday and work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hubby agrees to watch the baby on Friday and both children Saturday and Sunday.
With our first child we nanny shared until 18 months and then she started school. I went back to work when she was 3 months old. With this one I would not be able to nanny share.
Im not sure if I have the patience to stay home for the first 18 months, but I feel strongly about baby staying home. I love my daughter and I enjoy spending time with her, but I also use work as a break and a reset.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

2021.12.06 14:11 Butt_munch_er Possible SAD

So i have a pretty bad anxiety disorder, and mild - major depression(it was years ago I got this diagnosis not sure if anything has changed) but I think I experience it more heavily in the winter. I’m not sure if that constitutes as SAD or just bigger badder depression, but long story short I’m struggling.
I have no interests or motivation. I barely eat(I struggle w an Ed on and off, I don’t count calories but I’ll sometimes go days without a real meal) and I’m so damn tired. My anxiety feels worse and I don’t want to leave my house.
Everything feels so overwhelming. The smallest of tasks feel too much.
I’m on Wellbutrin but quite honestly I’m bad at taking it.
Idk I guess my question is, what do other people do to take care of themselves when things get worse
