2021.12.07 06:06 jegelskerdanskernes Medical Cannabis
Hey guys, I have just started the process of applying for medical marijuana, I'm a 20 y/o and want to use it for severe anxiety and depression.. just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, or if anyone knows what my chances are of being approved. Doubting it'll go through, mainly because of my age and because it's for mental illness treatment, but I thought it could be worth a shot. Worst case I don't get approved. Tia!!

I've put some efforts on studying Japanese once, yet I didn't take it serious enough. Hence I've failed to make good progress. Now I'm re-starting learning Japanese and having some questions regarding the methods.
- Will study together with other(s) benefit a lot to the learning? ( e.g. group study ) If so, how? Any story to share?
- What study methods are you using that truly help a lot?

2021.12.07 06:06 karakayatfl Is read considered as a heteronym?
So the results of our English exam were announced and in a question, our teacher asked us to give some examples of heteronyms and one of my answers was "read" because that was the first thing that came to my mind. However, our teacher didn't accept that. How is it not a heteronym?

2021.12.07 06:06 ICWiener6666 Is anyone using mind-maps for plotting out stories/characters/places?
When I was a student, I learned about mind-maps: a visual way of organizing thoughts and data. This actually really helped me to pass courses that were relying heavily on memorization.
Since I started writing, I found myself more and more drawn towards mind-maps as a creative story writing aid. Does anybody else do this? After searching a while on internet I found this mind-map story making notebook, but this is pretty much the only example I could find.
Are mind-maps actually useful for plotting stories/characters/places?

2021.12.07 06:06 likeeyedid I grew a boyfriend in my garden
I just grew my very own boyfriend in the corner of my garden where there's always much sun and sometimes a bit of rain. I watched the small bucket filled with fresh potting soil every day to see when the first sprouts make their way out. Turns out it grew much faster than any other plant could.
Now, I didn't intend to grow a boyfriend of course. Nobody starts a gardening journey having something like that in mind, I'm relatively regular, not entirely odd. It was more of an experiment, the test of a hypothesis. Turns out growing humans is easy! Why do people go through the hassle of childbirth?
I'm exaggerating of course. I wouldn't be writing to you if everything went fine and well with my lover in soil. Let me tell you where I found the idea and the starting kit.
I moved to this strange town very recently and have therefore been just a bit lonely. It's become hard to meet new people you connect with, it proved even harder in a small town where everyone happens to be rather odd. I spent most of my time getting my small new home in order, decorating, painting and building but when the insides were finally ready, I still had all this time so I proceeded with the garden. Soon I had soil filled with tomato, pumpkins, and sunflower seeds. I planted parsley, onions, and basil. Flowers and even a small tree that would provide me with fresh lemons.
When boredom was still far too present I went to the peculiar market that is only in town on very odd days. The last time it was there was February, the 29th when I had only moved here and had no time. I cannot say for sure why the day I went was odd but it must have been. I could tell by the weather. The sun was shining as bright as it hadn't been all year, there were a few clouds on the baby blue sky but they were fluffy and white like fresh cotton candy. The trail to the market was empty, not a single person was walking on the pebbly road with much green on the left and right but as soon as I got close to the marketplace they were all there. Not all, but a lot of people.
I strolled through the alleys and saw many interesting booths but somehow I was attracted to the one at the very end of the second alley. A wooden table, nothing special but the man behind it smiled and waved as he saw me.
"I know exactly what you need!" He said as I approached.
"And what is that?" I asked.
He pointed at my fingers.
"Dirt. Soil. Garden work?"
"Want to grow something extraordinary for once?"
For once? How did he know that not everything I grow is extraordinary?
He played with his waxed mustache and chuckled and honestly that's when I should have run. But you can't be scared or weirded out on bright sunny days. The yellow light makes everything seem okay. With his fingertips, he shoved a small brown box over the wooden table until it was right under my nose.
Growing kit for love
"You are a young pretty girl and pretty girls don't need to be lonely."
While his words were nice and so was his face I didn't appreciate those words. How did he even know that I was lonely?
The box looked pretty interesting though, the wood was old and a bit green but not in a disgusting way, and the letters were written with violet paint.
"Do I seem that pathetic?" I nervously chuckled.
"No, you seem like a perfectly great gardener."
I know, I know, both the interaction as well as the situation and the salesman were weird. Did I still buy the kit? Of course, I did. What else is there to do in this tiny town that is beautiful but boring?
The box came with one seed, coco peat soil, a small pot, and of course a letter with instructions.
Instructions for growing love
Step 1: set the dry coco peat soil in a small container and add 27 drops of water. Mix well.
Step 2: push the seed into the soil and think of your ideal/perfect person.
Step 3: make sure you start the growing process outdoors and leave the container outside.
Step 4: you will see hints of green growing soon! When your love grows too big, plant them into a bigger container.
Step 5: bury them.
I followed half the instructions. I did steps 1 and 2 although thinking of a perfect person proved harder than expected. I don't know who would be ideal at all but I figured maybe my subconscious was thinking of something while my conscious mind was confused. Step 3 I kinda messed up because I had already started with steps 1 and 2 before even reading 3. I started the whole process in my kitchen and then I wanted to place the pot outside but that night it started raining cats and dogs so I left him on my kitchen window.
I started calling it him.
Please don't think I'm insane, I didn't expect a person to grow out of that soil! I believed it would be just some special plant but I was excited for it nevertheless.
It took only one night for the first hints of green to sprout. In the morning the sun and the warmth were back so I moved the small pot out to the garden.
That afternoon the plant had grown so big, its small pot was on the brink of breaking and so I planted him into the nicest corner of the garden. The one that is kissed by the sun the most. I would have gone back to the market to ask the mustached man what kind of plant could possibly grow so fast but as I mentioned before, the market is only there on very odd days.
The following morning he was there. And he was not a plant.
He was a young man with very dark hair and very pale skin that doesn't see the sun often which makes sense considering he lived underneath the dirt until now.
I am kidding of course. I have no idea where that guy had come from but he was suddenly sitting in the garden with a spiky pick in his hand.
"What the hell?" I shouted and he turned around, seemingly surprised.
"What are you doing in my garden?" I tried to say confidently while searching for my phone with a shaky hand.
"You probably mean our garden?" He answered nonchalantly.
Now I should probably mention that I'm not the only person that can reach the garden. The house I live in has the form of a capital square C with other homes on the other sides of the letter. However, the neighbors I have are a mean old lady that never comes outside and a businessman who I only saw once because he is always on the road.
The stranger in my garden smiled and waved as if he hadn't just given me half a heart attack.
"Which home do you live in?"
"This one," he answered without pointing anywhere.
I felt a bit threatened but then I saw Ms. Morough standing in her window. She often stood there and watched me in the garden but despite my efforts she hardly ever engaged in conversation with me. However now she was smiling at the strange guy in the garden. She even waved. At him though, not at me. No, I received an eye roll instead.
"Don't worry, she warms up to people eventually."
The stranger jumped up from the ground and reached out his arm.
I shook his hand.
"That's a very fitting name," he smiled. "Nice to meet you, neighbor. May I ask why on earth you moved to this place?" He laughed.
That was a very legitimate question. Most people move to big cities after graduating to find work. I chose a tiny town surrounded mostly by fields and water. Somehow the quietness was exactly what I was seeking though.
"I inherited the apartment. And I just couldn't bring myself to sell it."
Aaron and I became great friends in no time. He grew up here but had been gone for years because of college. He was the son of the businessman. He showed me gems of the town that I hadn't seen yet, the best bakery and where to get the nicest coffee, he explained to me how this place indeed was a bit odd but could also be very fun.
I was so distracted by this new friendship that I almost forgot about my little project in the garden. I didn't tell Aaron what I had grown there because, well, how do you explain to someone that you tried to grow love? The last time I checked my plant had been growing towards becoming a tree but on one Sunday as I went to the garden to have some coffee with Aaron, it was dead.
The plant had fallen to the ground like a lifeless snake. The bright green looked rotten and tainted.
"How do you kill a plant so quickly? It's almost impressive," he said as we were standing above the corpse of my lover.
"I need to bury it now."
Aaron raised an eyebrow.
That was step 5 of the instructions but I couldn't tell him that. He didn't question it much longer though, he simply thought I had much love for plants which isn't a terrible character trait.
Either way, I didn't really need the plant anymore. I'd found Aaron after all.
We hadn't taken the step from friendship to more yet. I still slept alone in my bed at night. At least that's what I thought.
It was the middle of the night. After 4 AM I believe when I felt sharp fingernails caress my face. I was still half asleep when it started but as my mind slowly woke up I felt the anxiety and terror run through my blood. It wasn't enough to mobilize my body yet however, I was frozen. My heart was beating so fast I thought it would break out of my chest.
There was somebody in my bed with me.
I had absolutely no idea what to do at that moment. Thoughts were flying through my mind but none landed. I did everything I could to keep my body from shaking. I didn't want this person to know that I was awake.
Finally, they got up. My mattress got lighter as the heavy body stood up. He was standing right above me now, I could feel it but I kept my eyes closed. The hands touched my face one more time before I heard the heavy steps leaving my bedroom.
It took quite a while until I dared to even move one muscle. I had never lived completely by myself before and I wasn't so sure anymore whether I liked it. When I collected the courage to get up the sun was starting to rise, it wasn't all dark anymore which helped with the fear.
I tried to listen but no noises were coming from my home. I wondered whether I had dreamed or imagined what happened that night. My phone was in the kitchen, I had to leave my bedroom to call someone and dreaded who I might meet on my way there.
I was both lucky and unlucky, however. There was nobody in my home, but whatever happened that night was not merely a nightmare.
Dirty footsteps were going all the way from the garden door to my bedroom. In the kitchen, someone had prepared breakfast for me.
A dead bird cut in half neatly decorated on a plate so it almost looked like a heart
I couldn't control my stomach after that sight and ran outside to the garden where I immediately threw up. My entire body was shaking, I felt violated and scared.
"Did you do this?" A familiar voice shouted. It was Ms. Morough. She stood in the garden together with Aaron who looked just as shocked. At first I thought she was screaming at him but no, it was directed at me. And as I looked around I understood what she meant.
The entire garden was wrecked. All plants were ripped from the ground, their roots spread everywhere. The tree was broken in two, dead birds and mice completed the picture.
Aaron quickly walked over, trying to comfort me I suppose, but I backed away. It was him. It must have been him. He was the newest factor in my life and in my distressed mindset I even wondered if he had grown out of that seed.
The police came but found no sign of forced entrance. No other apartment had been broken into either. It was only my home and the garden.
They checked for the footsteps. They weren't mine. Nor Ms. Morough's and they didn't belong to any other close neighbor either.
And they weren't Aaron's. Somebody else had done this.
My suspicions were wrong.
Aaron was not the boyfriend I grew, though the timing of his arrival could be confusing. I suppose sometimes coincidences exist. It wasn't him. The soil boyfriend arrived at night and acted as if he'd been there all along.
I met him the following evening. After changing the locks and checking every window and gap there might be.
I spent the evening with Aaron which might have seemed a little naive considering he could still have been partially guilty. However, I did take some precautions. We stayed outside the whole evening. The weather was nice and we wanted to clean the mess.
The thing I loved the most about this home, the garden, was now just depressing and sad. We sat there planning which new flowers to plant when he surprised us.
"Do not talk to him, Fenna."
He appeared out of nowhere. No, that's a lie. I knew where he grew out. I planted him.
My boyfriend was made out of whatever scraps he could find outside. He had bird feathers glued to his skin with blood. There were holes in his body and his face. He had never seen daylight before, he had only grown out of the ground a day ago and probably his underneath the dirt all day. Surprisingly he could speak, however. I didn't expect that.
"Who is that?" He screamed as he grabbed one of the shovels and went for Aaron who ducked away just in time.
"What the actual fuck?" Aaron shouted.
"It's okay. It's okay," I said. "He's just a friend. I waited for you."
My boyfriend turned to me and smiled a half-smile that almost broke my heart.
"You did it all wrong," he croaked. "It wasn't supposed to happen this way."
At first, I wasn't sure what he meant but I suppose it had something to do with how I planted him inside. I messed it all up but that awful mustached man should have warned me!
"It's okay," with every word his speech became clearer, "we will kill him and I'll take some of his body."
"If that's the only way."
We had to move quickly. I hoped that Aaron realized that too.
He did. With a swift move, he grabbed the pick that was on the ground and slammed it into the head of my soil boyfriend.
He screamed painfully and it really did hurt me as well. It was all my fault after all.
But we had to do it. We had to finish the fifth step.
We buried him deep into the soil. It took us hours, he had grown to be heavy. A tear rolled down my cheek as I poured the last bit of dirt.
Ms. Morough looked out once or twice. She knew what we were doing but she didn't say a word.
As I mentioned before, the people in this town are all rather odd.
I sighed. This was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Aaron and I were both full of dirt and lots of red and some green blood.
"You know at first I really thought you grew out of that dirt. Lucky for you that I didn't bury you," I tried to joke after we had cleaned up and gone inside. It had been a very stressful day.
"How do you know that seed didn't grow into two plants?"
