Is it strange for (19F) my grandfather (72M) to be kinda touchy?

2021.12.06 03:17 Temmi3TheThing Is it strange for (19F) my grandfather (72M) to be kinda touchy?

This is the first time seeing my grandfather for around 8 years or so, but he's visiting our house for the next 3 days, and he arrived at our house yesterday.
I don't know if it's just a thing for grandparents to be touchy, because I'm only used to my dad's side of the family, who only hugs once or twice in a meeting, so his behavior strikes me as odd. (He is from my mother's side)
last night, we were at a restaurant, and we were seated at the table so that I was sitting next to my grandfather across from my parents. He started to touch my back and kind of rub it, which caught me off guard and left me kind of bewildered. I just sat there, even though I was kind of uncomfortable with this weird new psychical contact. keep in mind, no one in my family has done this kind of touching before, so I was weirded out. after a few seconds, I shifted a little in my seat, kind of trying to give him the message, "ok you can stop now". But he kept his hand there in the middle of my back, and I didn't want to cause any commotion, so I waited until the food got there to make a reasonable movement to move away from his hand, and that worked. but he did it a second time during the meal.
during todays lunch, when my parents situated me to sit next to him again, he pulled me into a huge bear hug, which I did try to resist, but suddenly he kissed the top of my head, and said:
"you know ,grandpa daddy loves you"

WHAT. THE. CINNAMON. TOAST. FRICK?????
I haven't seen this man since I was eleven. I mean, I've heard him and mom talking on the phone occasionally, but he's never said crap like that before.
I didn't say anything back to him. I quickly but naturally got the FRICK out of that position, and looked at my parents like: "you don't think this is weird?!?". they didn't say or do anything out of the ordinary, just kept on with lunch. he put his hand on my back during that meal as well.
he insists on sitting in the back seat with me whenever we go on a drive
during his visit, my parents encourage me to help him with getting in and out of the car, so I don't think they see anything weird about how he touches me, I think I'm the only person uncomfortable with it. how do I bring this up with my parents? I talked about it with my dad, but he thinks its ok.
He hasn't touched me in any no no zones, but his touch still leaves me really unsettled.
Am I weird for not being comfortable with being touched on the back??? what should I say to my parents?
TL;DR: grandpa touched me on the back a lot, I don't like it, how do I explain that it makes me uncumfy?

2021.12.06 03:17 nbellc Conservative writers like Scruton?

Does anyone have any recommendations for writers or contemporary thinkers like Roger Scruton? Iโ€™ve made my way through almost all of his work at this point and I love it.
Iโ€™m struggling to find other contemporary authors in a similar vein - considered and with a strong philosophy underpinning their writing.
Obviously there are the core philosophical/theoretical texts (Hobbes, Burke, Hayek etc) but Iโ€™m looking for something more up to date. Iโ€™ve found a lot of the more recently published books have a less cohesive philosophy behind them or are focused on outrage or angecontempt (e.g. Theodore Dalrymple, David Skelton).
Thanks!

2021.12.06 03:17 TrueSeeker0 What should a Business MIS graduate struggling with the job search do?

Before you reply, please be nice and understanding with me. Don't judge me because this isn't easy.
I graduated with B.S. Business MIS, and in the courses we learned Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau, along with the general business concepts like project management and such. However, the major is so broad that it doesn't delve deep in any one software skill like how Computer Science or the engineerings focus on Java, C++, etc. This is both a strength and a weakness.
I'm having trouble finding a job after graduation, it's been almost 1 year now and I feel exhausted and desperate. Worse, I held off on having a part time job (living with family) for months to focus on the job search, thinking I would land one soon, but it never came (will aim for a part time now and resume the full time search after). Even worse, I made the heinous mistake of graduating during the lockdown, and unfortunately did not secure an internship because of said pandemic. I didn't waste my free time during college though, I did a lot of student leadership and extracurricular which taught me other skills (leadership, teamwork, event planning, virtual adaptation, hosting meetings, philanthropy, volunteering).
The early portion of post-graduation I focused on applying for Data Analyst jobs, but soon discovered it was too advanced and not entry level friendly, too catered towards CS degrees. I focused then towards a mix of nonprofit administrative positions and business admin / database admin type positions, or any tech, but to no avail. Currently, per recommendation of some friends and my sister who switched from accounting to IT, I am gunning for IT. Except the entry curve is just as difficult and I am stuck needing to go for Help Desk Support if I want to start this career path.
To be honest nothing about any of those fields excite or motivate me (my choice of major wasn't the smartest even though lucrative), perhaps I'd be most interested in certain types of nonprofits that promote ethnic justice, education, helping others, etc. But nonprofits just pay less, and I'm particularly jaded after a nonprofit (where I've personally known everyone and volunteered with for years) that had a full time job opening still did not accept me after the interview stage due to having no professional experience in the nonprofit management industry. It was after that I decided to gun for IT, but now I have doubts. If I need to go for Help Desk (which I'm struggling to get into) and spend loads on certificates to advance, am I and my skill-set even a right fit?
What am I supposed to do? Which path do I go down? What is the most entry level friendly (not that 2-5 years minimum experience BS please) given my developed skills and experiences? And I've tried to rework my resume and interview skills but it's just not working, what do I do?

2021.12.06 03:17 RowenMhmd (Spoilers Main) On the biology of direwolves

When we are first introduced to direwolves in book one, they are described by Jon as "growing larger than the other kind" - implying that they are separate from mainstream species of wolf found in Westeros. Theon adds that it has been hundreds of years since the last direwolves were spotted south of the wall - which implies that Summer, Ghost, Nymeria, and the others are possibly the only direwolves in the Seven Kingdoms.
In real life, direwolves were distinct from grey wolves. They did not interbreed with them, according to recent studies.
However, in ACOK, ASOS, and AFFC, we learn of a wolf pack in the trident. Their main wolf is described as a direwolf, and is heavily implied to be Nymeria, Arya's lost wolf.
In order for Nymeria to have formed her own pack (it's incredibly rare for wolves to join others' packs and then the breeding pairs), she would have had to find a mate and had offspring. This would mean that direwolves and 'normal' wolves are able to interbreed.
Now, I do know that the books were written before the 2020 study which showed that direwolves weren't as genetically close to wolves as we previously thought. However, the ASOIAF direwolves are also far larger than real direwolves, and have various other genetic differences.
As such, I've come to the conclusion direwolves of ASOIAF are a completely different species with merely the same name as real-life direwolves.

2021.12.06 03:17 skaterwolf41 Is there a program made for only cropping videos?

I have a friend who is getting into real production and she needs a way to crop her videos. Iโ€™ve suggested to her multiple editing programs that have this feature but she is very content with the one she has currently, so she asked me if I could find her a program with the sole purpose of cropping video. Are there any programs like that? Preferably some freeware
