2021.11.27 05:44 Frogcozy Im not sure what to do

I'm in therapy, i have literally all the medical support i could get. I'm on meds. I have family helping me yada yada yada. But i can't stop planning my suicide. I don't want to die. I just want to pause.
And its the stupidest thing ever that a slight misunderstanding with a rando with a somewhat big following on the internet assumed the worst intentions about a question i asked and i just spiraled. I already know these thoughts are irrational. I've been in therapy since i was seven. It just feels like it keeps getting worse.
I'm trying to be positive. I'm open with my friends about my feelings. But i try not to burden them too much or trauma dump or overwhelm them. I know thats not okay. But i don't know what to do. I don't have very many friends. I feel like i constantly have to be talking to someone to get my head to stop ruminating on every bad thing I've ever done. I feel like an immoral monster.
I need mobility aids, crutches, but I'm not like completely unable to walk. In fact i walk a lot. I just know that it would help with the pain i get while walking. I get clicking sounds in all my joints and sharp stabbing pains accompanied by dull aches and hot prickles at night. I just have too many medical issues that don't actually seem bad enough to be taken seriously or to rationalize getting things that would help.
I haven't had s good time the last time i went to the hospital for a suicide attempt. All i really want is some comfort honestly.
But just any negative interaction i have, even if its as small as accidentally getting on the wrong bus i just feel like everyone knows how stupid and gross i am and i spiral into wanting to kill myself again. I really don't know what to do.
I moved to a new city in the summer, i don't know anyone here, i don't see anyone here. My dads here but his girlfriend won't let me in the house cause of covid even though i literally don't even see anyone or talk to anyone for weeks at a time. I'm just sooooo lonely. And i can't shut my head up. I don't want to die hut i don't know what else you do. I don't know what to do. My friends say they're there if i want to talk but then dissapear for days at a time. I can't blame them i know there busy and i talk a lot but i don't know what to do. I'm so fucking lonely snd i feel like everything else just gets worse. I've lost thirty pounds, every time i eat i feel like I'm gonna throw up. I don't know what to do or what to ask for. Not at all.

2021.11.27 05:44 techtechor The Issues with the Live Action Cowboy Bebop - Full In-Depth Review

(Spoilers Ahead)
After watching, I think the major number one issue with the live action Cowboy Bebop is the lack of action. There are practically no chase scenes, few fight scenes, and no ship to ship dogfights. There are other issues as well and I've detailed them below. The number two issue, poor writing. Casting was great, and the acting was great (the writing just doesn't help the actors at all). But following is the issues.
1.) Lack of Action Scenes
One great example of lack of action is episode 3, the fight with Hakim starts around the 16 minute mark and ends around the 19 minute mark. The episodes credits begin around the 43 minute mark. That's 16 minutes of no action before the first fight and 27 minutes of no action after.
The final confrontation with Hakim is a stand-off that is solely dialogue. The rest of the episode is Jet giving a gift to his daughter and Spike confronting Vicious via snipper riffle and communicator.
It's a mistake (or at least very odd decision) to have the most action filled scene, Spikes fight with Hakim, happen about 1/3 of the way into the episode. Typically the biggest action scene is reserved for the climax or at least near the climax, and usually the climax of an episode happens near the end of an episode. So it felt like the climax of the episode happened way to early, and the actual climax was boring and had no energy.
A fix would be to have a shorter episodes, or to have included another action scene when confronting Hakim the final time.
2.) Limited Fight Scenes
I don't recall one fight scene that started in one area and expands and moves to another. For the live action Cowboy Bebop, if the fight is on the roof, it stays on the roof, it ends on the roof. If the fight is in an alley, it ends in the alley. This is probably because the show lacked in budget.
I recently watched The Foreigner there's a fight scene that takes place in the house, however it moves from room to room, they fight in rooms, on the stairs, and in the attic (if I remember correctly), and some of it happens on the roof. It's a solid utilization of the entire house, it's not just confined to one spot.
(Star Wars Visions Spoilers Ahead) Another, example of a better fight scene is in Star Wars Visions the first episode. A samurai/ronin like character ends up fighting a villain that is harassing a small village. The fight starts in the village, moves to a river (where they fight standing on a log going down the river), the ronin falls of off a water fall, and the fight ends in a small cave behind the waterfall. Also, while the fight is happening the action cuts to the villagers where more action is taking place.
In live action Cowboy Bebop fights take place in usually very small spaces and they rarely cutaway to other characters also doing something action oriented. We never get a moment of one character trying to defuse a bomb, while the other fights off a villain. We never have one character fighting a main villain while another chases after a second villain.
It's not to say that fights can't be interesting in a small space. Even the live action Cowboy Bebop shows that it can do a decent fight scene. In Episode 2, Spike is fighting a syndicate member in the bathroom. The fight utilizes several different areas of the bathroom, all in clever ways. Spike uses the towel dispenser to defend himself, smashes the syndicate member through the mirror, Spike is shot at as he runs the length of the bathroom, at some point Spike is pushed against the wall where he goes up it and then jump kicks off of it, and it ends with him kicking the syndicate member through a stall door. On top of that, the fight sometimes cuts away to Jet who is confronting the Teddy Bomber (or one of his crew), which is a cutaway to another action oriented scene.
That's a solid fight scene, it utilizes nearly every area of bathroom and in clever ways and it cuts to Jet who is also doing more action oriented things. It shows that the live action can pull off a solid action sequence, unfortunately most fights are simple one-on-one fights that don't utilize the location well and end rather quickly.
Also note, I don't think a single fight scene every turned into a chase scene and not a single chase scene ended in a fight scene, which are both very typical in action genres.
3.) Lack of Non-Combat Action Scenes
I consider non-combat action scenes, semi-prolonged scenes, typically including close-ups of those actions, and usually not containing dialogue. So for instance a scene where a character toggles switches to get a ship up and running, with close-ups of the switches and screens showing the ship powering up, would count. While, a brief shot of a character fixing a bike right before another character comes into speak with them, would not.
In the first episode of the live action, there's a scene of Jet flipping switches to close shutters on the Bebop and Jet has to fix a jammed shutter, a great example of a "non-combat action scene". In episode 2, Jet opens a fridge to get something out of it and also has to press some buttons on a machine to analyze the fake hand they found. Both shots are done in a unique way to make them visually interesting and I'd count these as "non-combat action scenes". They add a little visual interest to a medium based around visuals.
Later episodes in the live action show, stop doing such scenes, which leaves the show feeling like a lot of talking heads ("a camera shot of a person's head and shoulders when they are talking on video or on television, or the video itself").
For example, if you go to episode 7 and skim the timeline, notice how much of the episode is just a waist up shot of a character talking, or a medium shot of two or three characters talking, or a close-up on a face talking. Where's the action? Where's the visual interest? For a show based on an anime that had a lot of style and flair, what is the live action giving us? Mostly standard dialogue scenes.
3.) Lack of Chase Scenes
I don't think the entire live action series ever had a prolonged chase scene, and when there was it wasn't interesting. No chases through the city, jumping from rooftops and over carts and through a marketplace. No car chases or chases racing a train or a spaceship chasing a car.
Faye chases the villains in a ship in episode 4, but it consists mostly of her taking off, closeups of her in the ship, and cutaways to Spike and Jet. It's not an interesting chase, the only interesting aspect is when she shoots down the missile, but it's very short lived.
There's a chase in episode 5, near the beginning. Jet runs down a hallway, runs down a catwalk, goes down some stairs, a few gunshots, Jet jumps down onto a foot off a ladder, then about 3 feet onto some box that says "pay here" and then onto the ground. There's more gunfire and a small run through the alley. It's done very slowly and the action lacks punch (maybe it's because it's supposed to be noir and it's going over my head) but all I got out of it was that is was rather anemic and slow paced.
Yet another chase scene in episode 5 at about the 36 minute mark. It lasts all of 30 seconds. Jet jumps across some cargo containers, stops to look for his target with a flashlight, spots him, turns around to jump over a couple more cargo containers and then jumps off the cargo containers where he confronts the target. Again, it's slow and doesn't do a whole lot to try and be interesting. There are some large and interesting camera angles, but it looks like that's to cover the lack of interest in what's actually happening.
*4.) Too Much Quipping and No Time to Let it Breath *
The quipping works to some degree, I think it helped to set up the dynamic with Jet , Spike, and Faye. It helps the show from taking itself too seriously and some of the quips were funny and worked well. However, this show had near constant quipping. It's a complaint for quite a few Marvel movies.
I think the best example of too much quipping is when Vicious is quipping with Spike about having his "stuff" shaven. Even Marvel movies, notorious for overly quipping, were smart enough not to have Thanos (or at least if he does quip it's subtle). When you have the main villain stoop so low, it really prevents him from feeling scary, threatening, and like a villain. Vicious' quipping not only betrays the anime portrayal of him, it also betrays the live action portrayal of him. Vicious doesn't quip up until that point, and he quips quite a few times in episode nine. He may have had some one-liners previously, but his quipping in episode nine is really out of place.
On top of that, the characters are quipping so much there's rarely any scenes that are showing the viewer something. Too few scenes letting the viewer take a break from the dialogue. It's near constant dialogue and quipping. This is film a visual medium (show, don't tell)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show,_don%27t_tell].
*5.) Too Much Swearing and Juvenile Language *
Adding a swear here and there to mature up the language, fine. But wow, so much swearing and it didn't add anything it only took away. On top of that all the weird juvenile stuff, sometimes it was stilted like Jet saying "While you were throwing her your own bone, I bet." It's so awkward, just to get the pun in.
Also, a lot of lines Faye had, Faye's lines aren't that bad, but then she'd have to say nut bags or something after. It's definitely lessens, if not ruins, the line and makes it annoying.
How about this exchange in episode 3:

Spike: You could sell your arm. Jet: I could put my fist up your a**. Spike: True. And it would feel really good, but would it solve anything?
Is this sarcasm or serious? Is supposed to be funny or are we learning a new character trait for Spike?
6.) Trying Too Hard to Be Edgy (Or Strange Tonal Decisions)
It seemed really out of place, to me, for Jet and Spike to go to a BDSM club. I can see the two going to some seedy or racy places, but at the same time Spike didn't want to go to New Tijuana, but he's okay with the BDSM strip-club planet, at night, that looked far less safe. It seemed like Spike was a regular there, is this a new character trait for Spike? I don't know, maybe it was just a cheap attempt to make the show "more mature" while at the some time giving us some Juvenile BDSM jokes.
But even then, is BDSM the tone of Jazz, Westerners, and Noir?
7.) Some Sets Were Done Very Poorly
Some sets were great, I like the way they did the Bebop, the first episode was overall pretty solid on all the different locations/sets. But then later episodes, some sets were a joke.
In Episode 2, Spike and Jet go to a construction site. An outside shot shows some construction equipment and the offices in the background. Obviously this doesn't look otherwordly enough, so what do they do to otherwordly it up? Not one, but two photoshopped floating cities in the background. But, then when they're in the construction office, it just looks like a typical standard construction office and Spike and Jet stick out like sore thumbs.
It happens again at the end of episode 3 where Jet goes to see his daughter. We get a shot of the house, but it's a typical house you'd see today. So what do they do to make it seem otherwordly? Photoshop in a really big nearby planet and moon, a quick yellow color grading and some lens flare. And then they don't do anything (other than the color grading and lens flare) inside the house to make it feel/look otherwordly. Like they could have tried to have some futuristic gadgets laying around, or some CGI over the cupboards to make them look otherwordly, a strange looking couch or lamp, but nothing is done instead.
8.) What Happened to Outer Space?
For a show based on an anime that had space ships and dogfights and what not we very rarely see Spike in his ship, The Swordfish, or Faye in her ship. It happens, but the scenes are short lived. We rarely get any establishing shots of the Bebop floating around in space too, there's maybe only two.
For the most part, it almost felt like the show took place on one single planet. Again, this might be due to budget restrictions.
9.) Odd Decisions of When to Remain Faithful to the Anime and When to Differ
I've seen quite a few fans of the live action adaptation say "What did you expect, it's a live action adaptation, it can't be 1:1. The live action is it's own thing.". But, changes can be made to the live action adaptation, to let it stand out, that don't have to also be so jarring and disrespect the source. For instance in the live action Cowboy Bebop Jet doesn't know Spike was in the Syndicate. This is a great change. A small change, but one with a big payoff. It's a change that doesn't disrespect the source, but it made the live action stand out in a rather big way. It's also an interesting change and I'd say one that works well.
Even giving Jet a family, it's a decent change and doesn't disrespect the source of Jet's as character. It only didn't work in the live action due to poor writing.
But then you have the stuff like the extra, excessive, and juvenile swearing and it's a change that does nothing but drag the show down while also disrespecting the source.
Exploring new locations and villains is also a great way to keep characters intact, while giving brand new stories that stand out, but the live action did not go that way.
I'd also like to point out the different T.V. and film versions of Batman. Sure there have been wacky versions like Adam West Batman and Batman Forever. But the Burton, Nolan, and Ben Aflec versions of Batman are all unique and different takes on Batman, that (mostly) respect the source, without having Batman cuss constantly and say nut bags all the time.
One other point on "What did you expect, it's a live action adaptation, it can't be 1:1. The live action is it's own thing.". The live action show is a show that called itself "Cowboy Bebop", not Cowboy Bebop: Reloaded or Cowboy Bebop: Next. It's show that the showrunners touted on social media as being faithful or at least respectful to the source. They even made to list Shinichirō Watanabe as a consultant in the credits of every episode. It's show that copied the anime's opening theme nearly exactly and used the exact same music. They brought back Yoko Kanno. The characters have (mostly) the same costumes and names. The same villains and plotlines are used as well.
The live action show did nothing to say that it would be a reimagining and did everything in it's power to act like it would be a faithful adaptation. It did a whole lot to mimic the original anime and when you do that you should compare it to the original. No the live action shouldn't be 1:1, but Netflix did nearly everything they could to make it seem like we would be getting the same characters, but new stories. Instead we got sort of similar characters and the same stories only all done worse and with a bad twist.
I thought the casting was great for Jet, Spike, Faye, the Big Shot Hosts, most if not all the villains were great too (aside from Vicious). I think Ed was spot on too, it's just that it's extremely difficult to translate a character of that style to live action and the directors should have tried not to be so faithful here.
The actors all did very well, but the writing just let's it all down, you can't out act bad writing no matter how good the acting.
There were a lot of great looking sets, and I thought the costumes were pretty solid.
That said, the show should have been 30 minutes. Episodes consist of too much dialogue and dialogue heavy scenes are rarely shot in interesting ways. Action scenes are too few and most are weak, chase scenes are barely existent and too short and boring, dialogue is often stilted and juvenile. The show remains faithful in areas it should have differed and then differs in areas it should have stayed the same.
It's also clear the budget wasn't nearly large enough to make a show that would fit the size and caliber of the anime. I think the lack of any sort of extravagant and extended chase scene, the lack of fight scenes, and the lack of any dogfights are because budget restraints.
Again, instead of getting the same characters with new stories, we got sort of similar characters getting the same stories only all done worse and with a bad twist.
