2021.11.29 14:06 darus214 This one is tough. What's a good job or career path for someone with limited English?

I'm trying to find a job for my SO but it's tough because he has limited English with only a high school education. I think it'd be best for him to get a certificate but I have no idea what would be a good fit for him. He's 29 and we are in the Tampa area if that matters. I don't think he will be able to find a good job without some type of certification, which is why I'm asking for help. Anyone have suggestions?
Thank you!

2021.11.29 14:06 i_MiLK Anatomy of an Upset: The Dayton Flyers vs The Kansas Jayhawks + Thoughts on Duke vs Gonzaga (In Comments)

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAYTON FLYERS! D-A-Y-TTTTTTTTTT-OOOO-N! DAYTON! FLYERS! GO UD!

Ladies and gentlemen, my (Reddit) name is i_MiLK. I am proud to present to you all an analysis of the REIGNING, UNDISPUTED, CHAMPION OF THE ESPN EVENTS INVITATIONAL: THE. DAYTON. FLYERS.

In truth, this was actually going to be a post on Iona's win vs Alabama, but then the next day the Dayton Flyers pulled out a stunner of an upset over the AP top 5 Kansas Jayhawks en route to their championship in Orlando. Fitting that the last-second heroics of Mustapha Amzil sent students/alumni/fans etc. of the Catholic Marianist school into rapture, eh? These extraordinary upsets don't just occur out of nowhere however, so I'm going to go over a couple key points in the second half to show you all just how this upset happened. I will be splitting this section into 2 main parts: The start of the 2nd half where Dayton came back from a 10 point deficit at the break, and the late stages of the 2nd half during crunch time. As has been the norm with my previous posts, I will be going over offense rather than defense. I'll do one of these on someone's defense................................................................eventually.

COMEBACK
Transition baskets: 17:36 16:15
Half-court: 19:49 17:16 15:34
One of the first things you need in cooking up an upset is an easy way to score buckets. Kansas' transition defense was really lacking, they lacked focus and urgency in getting back and matching up. Both transitions baskets I've shown are a result of poor communication. Christian Braun gets caught cheating on the first one in trying to pressure Malachi Smith despite the fact that Remy Martin is in decent position to stop the ball. Ochai Agbaji is left with an impossible 2-on-1 as he's forced to take the cutter and leave Elijah Weaver for an open catch-n-shoot 3 that he splashes. The next one is another open Weaver 3, as Dajuan Harris inexplicably peels off of the sweet shooting southpaw to pick up Smith despite the fact that Braun is already there. E-dub gets to step into a shootaround 3 and the game is tied.
Kansas also matched UD size-for-size in the 2nd half after starting the game small with 4 guards/wings in the first half. Coach Bill Self went with the 6'8 combo forward Jalen Wilson at the 4 to matchup to the similarly sized do-it-all star Georgia transfer Toumani Camara. However, KU switched everything that didn't involve David McCormack, so that led to the Flyers' best player to get mismatches in the post on a number of possessions. This is the offense I hope to see more of from Dayton. I love the first one, where Remy Martin gets switched on to Camara far too easily and it's mouse-in-the-house time. Excellent spacing (something UD needs far, far more of this season) with freshman phenom DaRon Holmes II in the opposite dunker's spot to dissuade the help from McCormack and Agbaji too little to do anything about Holmes' length at the rim, two shooters in the opposite corner and opposite wing (although Weaver on the opposite wing should flatten his angle more and be further from the top of the key), and Malachi Smith one pass away to attack the rim off the catch if the double comes from Harris despite being a non-shooter. The third play is also exquisite, as there's good recognition to immediately post up Camara against the smaller Braun. McCormack doubles because Braun has no chance against Camara's size downhill, and Camara shows great awareness and instincts to not only pass out of the double, but from Holmes to instantly cut to the basket for an easy dunk. Another thumbs up to Toumani since doubling usually means the help is 1-on-2 from where the double came from. If you make yourself available from where the double just came from, you are probably going to be open and it was smart stuff from the Flyers bigs to see that.

LATE GAME
8:40 8:08 7:34 4:15 1:00
You also need to find ways to score at least a few points in the clutch to give yourself a chance at the end of the game in an upset. I was surprised to see coach Anthony Grant go away from his typical motion offense to focus more on the high pick n roll game late in the game. They didn't score a ton of points in the last half of the 2nd frame, so I guess it's no surprise that Grant went more towards his motion late-game against Belmont. Funny enough, neither really worked! Scoring was kind of a struggle, but luckily Dayton has a bunch of length and athleticism throughout their squad, so they can really extend their defense and do it well when the game bogs down into the more static offensive possessions that crunch time usually does. One thing I did like about UD's PnR approach is how they attacked Mitch Lightfoot. He's not quick enough to keep up with Malachi Smith as it is, so setting a down screen on him with one of the wings was something really smart. Lightfoot had to go from sprinting forward to the top of the key after getting down-screened to contain the PnR, to being forced to quickly transitioning backward in order to try and provide some resistance to Smith attacking downhill with a head of steam. It was never going to work out well and it's not a surprise that Dayton got 7 quick points off of it to get the lead to 6 with under 8 minutes to go. Another transition breakdown for good measure, and that basket to cut it to 1 showcased incredible effort, strength, concentration, and touch by Malachi to finish through Remy and over David.
That, of course, would lead us to the coup de grâce: ENJOY
Here are a couple first half 3s that UD hit that I like: 12:13 10:54 First one you've got UD getting into their standard motion offense and as Smith draws 2 defenders attacking baseline, I love the cheeky little backscreen Koby Brea sets on Lightfoot to free up Moulaye Sissoko down the lane line. Mitch is forced to protect the paint and that leaves Brea popping out to the wing for a wide open catch-n-shoot 3. More motion offense on the 2nd three, as Agbaji jumps the pass to the corner but leaves Braun 2 feet below the FT line as Sissoko and Brea do well to improvise a handoff for another wide open 3.
Overall, this was a very strange game. Dayton got a large slice of luck with the amount of loose balls that just bounced their way and Kansas shooting 4/19 from 3 along with 9/20 from the charity stripe. However, Dayton also only shot 5/17 from 3 and 11/19 from the FT line, so the luck balances out there I guess. Dayton also had twenty turnovers to the Jayhawks' seven, so even more reason that this wasn't necessarily luck or that the Flyers' luck wasn't deserved in that they still kept themselves in the game despite a typically insurmountable turnover margin. Like I mentioned earlier it seemed that Kansas just lacked focus for portions of this game. While the Flyers are crazy young, they are also very talented. Anthony Grant has filled his squad full of high 3 & 4 stars and P6 down transfers, you simply can't get away with the amount of lapses KU did and expect to win. I believe the bench doomed Kansas in this one. The Jalen Wilson and Mitch Lightfoot minutes absolutely sank them. Wilson was not the versatile 2-way forward we saw last year and Lightfoot, ironically, was too heavy-footed to keep up in the pick n roll against the quickness of Malachi Smith. This got UD back within striking distance, and from there they were able to stay in it enough to let Jesus take the wheel on Mustapha Amzil's unbelievable game winner.

2021.11.29 14:06 MidnightMinute25 Is it normal to not fear death?

this is a really weird question i feel like … but i’m gonna just put it really plainly here. i’ve been surrounded by death my whole life. my moms sister is a lunatic who has wanted to kill my grandparents for their money for a long time, my friend died when i was a kid, my cousins and aunts and my grandfather were always battling some kind of illness and dying of cancer, and i spent 70% of my childhood in a hospital (not for me, but for my grandmother. my mother cared for her 24/7 while she was hospitalized and my siblings and i were homeschooled). more recently, my best friend almost died, my brother killed himself, my high school friend killed himself 2 weeks ago, and i suffered a miscarriage. i know death is inevitable, and i have had very faint moments where i am afraid of the inevitability of it, primarily when i was religious. i don’t believe in a heaven or afterlife or anything of that nature since it doesn’t make sense to me, and my mom is very religious and tells me it’s not normal to not be christian and not fear death. while i don’t want to believe my loved ones, including my son, are just nothing now, it doesn’t make sense and death is just numb to me. it’s made me a hazard (not paying attention to traffic as i walk along the street, putting my hand under hot water, etc. i don’t mean to do this but i also don’t mean to not do them … if that makes any sense at all) and it concerns me.
NOTE: i am beginning therapy on December 7th and i will be talking to my therapist about this … but in the past i’ve been put on suicide watch when explaining it. i am not suicidal, but it can come across that way which is why i don’t talk about it.

2021.11.29 14:06 Significant_Fudge_79 Gift for recently-retired dad

I’m looking for Christmas gift ideas for my mid-60s, recently retired dad. Interests include: Porsche, grilling (has a big green egg and many accessories already). He had an RC airplane phase which I think has ended. Got him a Switch last year that I don’t think he uses much. He just started an online yacht design class (for fun). He’s a beewine drinker but sticks to the cheap stuff like Bud and Franzia. He goes on daily walks but I don’t think he listens to anything, and I think he already has a fitbit.
I’ve considered a robotics kit and a standing desk converter, but I’m just not confident he’d use either. Any tips appreciated!

2021.11.29 14:06 seaboigium How exactly do I ship something through Offerup?

So, I'm selling a bunch of vintage action figures through Offerup. I prefer to sell locally but it seems that no one in my rural area is interested in the action figures. I got an offer from a guy 1.55 hours away but we apparently can't meet up because his vehicle is a gas guzzler that can't make the drive.
Because I really need some money, I've considered shipping it to him but I have no idea how to ship something through Offerup. I've never actually shipped anything before.
I looked up Offerup's instructions on shipping but they seem very vague to me so I'm wondering if anyone could give me an EILI5 on how to ship with Offerup.

2021.11.29 14:06 SadButterscotch2 Stop gatekeeping the LGBT+ community.

Don't wanna label yourself? You don't have to label yourself. Wanna give yourself a bunch of specific microlabels? There's nothing wrong with having words for things about yourself. There isn't. People need to stop throwing fits about it.
Is it impossible to tell you're queer just by looking at you? Good. Do you have brightly dyed hair and pride flags all over everything you own? Good. We need the people who normalize it and make it seem more acceptable to the average person, and we need the people who are loud and proud and fight.
This is supposed to be about our right to be accepted as we are, so stop doing the opposite of that and acting like there's only one right way to be LGBT+.
